I was wondering if anyone had anything to say about the AEM Brute Force intake system for a TRD supercharged '99 Tacoma. I have read some write ups on other sites/forums involving stock intake box mods that, theoretically, add the same power as the various aftermarket high performance Intake systems out there (K and N FIPK, Airaid, AEM Brute Force, etc.), for a small fraction of the price. Its hard for me to believe, but if anyone has any info or experience with those options I would like to hear them as well. I purchased a K and N FIPK for my truck a year ago and had problems with the check engine light malfunctioning(computer or mass air flow sensor based). I was thrilled with the felt increase in performance while I had it, but didn't think it was worth it to keep a $350.00 upgrade that didn't work correctly. I still haven't gotten over the lose in power since I gave the kit up, but read recently that this problem is moderately common for this Tacoma kit but is not an issue with the AEM Brute Force. At a cheaper price than the K and N, I am willing to take the risk of another problem arising and having to return it. I would love to hear any information or opinions on the subject.
Thanks,
Joe

The problems you were having were probably due to the oil from the K&N. The AEM unit uses a dry (non-oiled) filter element.

My AEM Brute Force Intake System on my ranger has worked perfectly since the day I installed it. Only took 15 mintues by the way.

I would contact the guys at Camburg and ask them about AEM for your Toyota. They have alot of experience with both Yota's and AEM.

Thanks for the help. I knew my mass air flow sensor was being corrupted and/or influenced by the K and N kits Oil soaked filter. I replaced it after I returned the kit, due to the fact it never worked properly after the reinstallation of my stock intake box(check engine light came on every 200 miles or so until I would disconnect the batteries negative). Thats why I'm pretty confident I will get all the performance without the hassle if I go with the AEM kit. Also, I will defiantly call Camburg and ask them about their thoughts. I had forgotten about their relationship with AEM until you mentioned it. Thanks again.
