Ok I have a 2001 4runner auto 2wd motor in my 86 pickup race truck. The motor is currently superchraged with no fuel up grades as of now. I have a brand new mass air flow sensor in it, have tested the connect for it as well and it is good. I have tested the tps and the connector and it is good. The computer is currently running with 7 power wires going to it. I have had the truck running for around a year or so. This last weekend the truck encountered a nice little problem, it will start and idle roughly but the second gas is applied through the pedal it will cut out and begin to die. I can not for the life of me figure out the problem. The plugs are new but when I pull them they are wet with gas and black. The fuel pressure when not running is at 48 psi. Any help I can get in making this thing run would be appreciated. Remember this is in a race truck so there is not much left of the stock wiring harness, there is the injectors, the major sensors and thats about it. The in cab wiring harness is not hooked up so I do not have a obd II port, but there is a small diagnostic port in the engine bay but I am assuming that it is toyota only plug?
Thanks

Take it out and give it to me. I have a good running 3.0 I'll trade you.
Does it run better after the O2s warm up? Have you tried running without one sensor at a time to see if it makes a difference?

I have been running it with the AFR sensor, the first sensor only. I have tried with it or without it and it doesn't help. However, the AFR should only make it run like crap no run at all like is it doing now correct?

Pull the vaccum hose off the fuel pressure regl. and see if fuel is coming out of the nipple I have seen this a few times where the rubber diafram will get a hole in it and flood the engine. Hope that helps. Also check the cold start valve.

Yup did this why staging for a race at perris last weekend but no gas came out but the motor died instanly.

check your grounds for the fuel injection? Are the plugs soaking wet? Will the engine stay running?

I think I am going to check the pulses for the injector hopefully before I leave for baja. All 6 plugs where wet up to the threads.

It sounds like you have a problem with the injectors stay open to long possible faulty ECU? Remember most fuel injection problems are wiring, grounds, simple things check your basics frist!

I have been thinking the ecu may be bad but is there a way to test is or could a toyota dealership test it?

Have you checked the coil(s) and coil wiring?

Possibly a fuel return line plugged/ kinked? A longshot, but maybe there is too much fuel pressure, and no relief for it.

I will check on the connector port question tomorrow when i am at work for you, if i can find the answer through toyota service. (sometimes that info is only given out in training, and i don't work for toyota)
Do you happen to have the emissions equipment on the engine still? If you have an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation valve), it very well could be stuck open. This happens with time and carbon build up. [As long as you have one] tap it with a hammer a couple of times and see if the problem persists. Then again, if you don't have the emissions...start with all the basics. spark, you said was good enough to give you a shock... Have you checked the fuel pressure? When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? ooooooooo, vacuum leaks, check for those, they are fun to check for! Get a new bottle of brake clean, start the engine and start dowsing any mating surface that is on the intake side. keep a fire extinguisher handy...don't ask me why i say that, long story.

no EGR vavle and there is no emmisions on the motor. Has a new fuel filter and the fuel pressure tested to 48 psi. I need to check it tomorrow with it running as much as it will....

I know this is old, and sure it has been resolved by now but one thing to keep in mind with EFI Toyota motors running lean/rich, is the coolant temperature sensor. If you eliminate the airflow meter, fuel pressure, and tps, try checking the CTS.

I can't remember is there is a IAC valve on those things or not. Also it might be a vacuum leak. That can cause funny things to happen.

BUMP- Still have this problem? What is your ECU part number?(should be a 10 digit part number starting with 3)
