I am looking at buying an old F150. If I do a compression test, will I have a good indication of whether the engine is good or not? Also, does the harbor freight compression tester work well? And what range of compression should I look for?

Sorry for the new guy question, I know bikes, not trucks.

I can tell you about a BBC, stock, you are looking at about 125 -130 psi. A leak down gauge might give you a little better idea as to what condition the rings are in though. Good luck.

Most parts stores will rent or loan a compression gauge. Don't buy one for a quick check like you need. Make sure each hole is within 10% of each other.
