They are made at the Wide Open Baja shop in Ensenada

Bill Savage designed and built the first dozen or so cars. After that they started doing them in house. Dave Perault, Ryan Flynn, Don Tebbe and myself actually built the first 6 or 7 at Savage's shop in the mid 90's

These facts reinforce my notion that they are very well built cars.

The fact that all of them finished the B1K this year says much for the people involved in their design and construction.

As well as the people chasing for them. I did the 3 day tour about 7 years ago. Top notch operation all the way.

Can you guys fill me in on what it cost to do the 3 day tour?
Or even the 1k, as I've only heard rumors of it being close to 30K for the 1000

I inquired about the same thing on Wednesday and called them about what the 1K cost. He sais it was about 80K per car and split with 6 people per car was roughtly 14K per person to run the Baja 1000. I spent about 25K on getting my truck ready and we ran out of time and money so we didn't race. Trying to get it done for new years. I guess if you wanted to just show up and drive 14K isn't that bad after all.

We did a custom 4 day tour from Loreto coming North last year. It was around $5k per person

...another quick note.... the fab school in riverside made 150 sets of upper and 150 sets of lower arms for them in a 6month period... what they did before i have no idea, what they did after that i also have no idea... but i do know for a fact that they did build quite a few arms (i did some myself)

I was kind of amazed that chassis are around for along time and people actually know about previous owners and win history and such. It seems to me with all the custom fabrication going on it would be hard to keep track of such things.

I also know that many of the cars through the years are upgraded/repaired and may not be entirely the same but for the most part I am sure they stay the same.

What's even crazier is that it was single pass tig welded and it is still holding together. I guess you realy don't need to weeve everything! :D
