Helmets
We know that there is a lot of controversy over the helmet rules for each series. DRIVE will not be allowing M Helmets for two reasons.
1. M helmets are not fire rated.
2. The face shields on M helmets are thinner then the shields on the helmets listed in the rules below.
DCR2: HELMETS
Helmets must be approved by one of the following; SA2000 , SA2005, FIA Standard
8860-2004. All identification stickers must be attached and legible. Straps must have Dring fasteners only. No snaps or Velcro will be permitted. The interior and exterior
areas of the helmet must be free of defects (i.e., the padding must be in good condition and the exterior of the helmet must not be damaged). DRIVE Off-Road Racing strongly recommends that entrants check the labeling on the helmet when purchasing to ensure the helmet meets the above listed criteria.

Doug, this would be a good place for you to post up some of the differences in the rules that DRIVE has. For example, you have a specific Yellow Light rule and Blue Light requirement that is different. You wouldn't want someone to show up at the race not knowing....????

I have two new helmets that I purchased from UBR, the only ID on them is SNELL Approved. They are AR10s What do you need for approval?

I'll put a list together tomorrow and post it. I may not get everything so it is a good idea to read all the rules. But we could help elevate some race day headaches with a good list.
Thanks Ramsey

The AR10 is Snell SA 2005 and SFI 31.8. Your helmets are good to go. Inside the helmet and under the padding there is a "shinny" label. Yours will say SA2005. Some will say SA2000.
The helmets that will not be allowed will say M2000 or M2005. Nothing with the date 1995 will be allowed.

Thanks Doug, I found the label. Was starting to sweat it for a second there.:D

Curious why the LED Amber lights are not allowed? At the KC Midnite race the cars using the LED's were easier to see then the ones using standard lights. Are LED tail/brake lights OK?
I noticed that the rules don't like LED's, why? The modern LED's hold up better then conventional lights and are brighter.

Attached is a list of rules that may be a little different from what some racers are used to. PLEASE read all the rules for your class on our website. This is not the complete list of rules.

You can't see the light from the LEDs when you are at any kind of an angle. I will look at this again just to make sure.

Hey All
Ok here is a question. I was looking at the class rules and it looks as if the original class 3 has been scraped. I seems as if you knocked all the full size SUV, blazer and Broncos out of a competitive class. It looks as if they are forced into class 8. The problem with that, is they are not competitive in that class.
Just A thought.

I was very surprised to hear that teams were called and asked to pay in full before they'd be pre-entered. Never seen this in ANY other promoter, not even vegas 2 reno required full payment for the race to do their pre-fun-run.
Interesting shenanagins that seem oddly familiar for the plaster city area promoters. Oh well we'll be there - see you all Friday......
Edit - That was the drawing order list, not the pre-entry list, still kinda funny though.....

Whats the final ruling on this it seems as if most modern cars are built with LED's, even the new spec vehicle series have LED ambers.

LED rule will be taken care of. 75% of all race cars have LED tail lights. Doug says he is going to take care of this.

We discussed this yesterday and we agree it needs to be done differently for the next race. A small deposit would be better. That way we aren't tying up team funds. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We will allow LED lights. We just want to make sure that if a car is stuck sideways on the course and in dust other cars can see them. We will evaluate after this race.
We will be sending out a Supplemental Rules page to all drivers that gave us an e-mail address and we will put it in the Driver Packet. It will have any deviations from the official rulebook.

I couldn't open the .pdf file. My computer's probably too slow. What is your rule on sirens---legal or do you not like them? On another note, I have never raced in the Plaster City area. Where exactly is the race course in that area. Is there only one course all your races are on? Do you have a map of it?
Thanks

We are going to look at all this later this week. Thanks for bringing it up now.

Sirens are OK. We prefer horns but it's not uncommon for people to use them.
We run different courses on routes that have been surveyed. There are a lot of options out there it just takes time to link the routes into good courses. We will be heading out next week to start plotting out the course for the next race.

I tell ya what, we have both a horn and a siren, never used the horn once this weekend - but the look of dear in the headlights as we charged at people in the wash with the siren blaring was priceless. Our siren runs a 110 watt amplifier and it DEFINATELY overpowers any horn out there. I've only once or twice heard a horn while driving, usually I hear another motor before I hear their horn. I have heard Fourstrokers siren, ask him how fast I moved........ just my experience
On a side note, Thanks to Doug for calling and letting us know you found our number plate, whered we lose it?? Not a bad weekend considering that was our only damage to the truck!

If it's loud then it's good:)
We found the number plate in the wash just after you turn back east from the mud hills. The plate itself was a little beat up but the bracket looks OK. Glad you had a good weekend. We had a blast.

Yea I like having both as well. BITD didn't allow sirens, so I was just wondering. An amplifier is an even better idea than the regular siren I run. Maybe I'll look into that. I also like to run my lights in the day. That seems to get people to pull over a lot faster just because they see me earlier through the dust. Thanks for the info. I still need better directions on where the courses are but I'll google up something.
Thanks

The courses are in Plaster City which is about 20 minutes west of El Centro and 7 miles east of Ocotillo. Call me if you need more info.

Thanks, dwasser. I'd like to race my buggy in the March race. Maybe I can talk a couple of friends into racing their trucks, too. I'll call you later this week.
Thanks

I may have missed this, but what is your policy on missed races? If we enter a race, and then don't make it, does the entire entry or down payment roll over?

You would get a full refund.
