DRIVE UTV Class?
DRIVE was originally planning on have a UTV class that would run with everyone else. After many discussions within the company and with racers, builders and associations we decided that it just isn’t safe enough to meet our comfort level. It has nothing to do with capability or speeds. It is strictly a matter of the weight of the vehicles and the short distance between the rear of the cage and the driver/co-driver.
We did look at doing a staggered start but that would require volunteers to be out on the course for up to 18 hours in the same day as well as light towers and other addtional equipment.
With that said, we realize that there is a need to have more events in Southern California for the UTV racers to race at.
One idea is to have a separate event on Sunday (the day after the car and truck race). This would require additional volunteers willing to stay latter on Sunday, possibly additional insurance, and possible additional permits.
We are looking for your input and ideas about how we can meet the UTV racers needs. Please post ideas and state whether you are a UTV racer, a fan, or volunteer. We need to try to get an idea of the amount of entries and volunteers we would have if we did a separate race.
Length of course?
Time Limit?
I could definitely see some very cool starts. Maybe a Bomb run Grand Pre style event???
