I got a 2005 chevy silverado HD(6.0) that wont start. I was having trouble getting it started because the battery was dead, so i bought a new one. When i put the new battery in, it wont start. I also got the starter checked and everything is new. I'm guessing its got something to do with the computer. Any suggestions? Thanks

Is it making any kind of sound when you try to start it? Is it trying to start? When you turn the key in the on position are you hearing the fuel pumps turn on, the battery gage at a good level, etc....?

It doesn't try to start at all. You can hear the fuel pump, guages turn on, but it wont crank.:confused::confused:

ok here's a brief step by step process you might try if you havent already. It doesn't sound like the PCM security lockdown, because if it was, the truck should start then cut off everytime you try to start it. If you have anyone with a PCM code reader you can see if the computer is throwing out codes, that could help. If not then its the starter system.
1. Make sure you are getting atleast 10v from your battery (you can check when you turn the key to on, it will show total voltage in the battery) Or hook up a voltmeter and check directly.
2.Check all your fuses for the starting system
3. Check all battery connections and wires to make sure everything is secured tight and no exposed wire, frayed,etc.... Check every ground wire..
4. Same with the starter as above... and hook up the voltmeter to make sure the starter is getting juice.
5.Try jump starting
6.Check if the starter gear is moving at all and meshing with the crank, if movement you can rule out bad starter, if no movement either its not getting enough juice, or the starter is bad.
Give that stuff a try and see what happens. Hopefully something in here works for you!
And if you replace the battery its always good to have the alternator checked (autozone does it for free) to make sure your battery is getting charged.

I had a netrual saftey problem with my 02 chevy 5.3l over turkey day, everything came on but it wouldnt crank. Check all the plugs on the trans is one thing. I dunno if yours has it but a neutral saftey switch possibly too...
