Why is it that Walgreens and Rite Aids put thier stores up just about side by side? When one is completed and open they just seem to build a competing store next to it. It just seems dumb. I understand busienss but this seems silly and irratating to me when I see it.

That's your answer right there. If there is a market for one company that sells a particular product, another company is going to go for that clientele.
It's business.

They put 3 gas stations at the same intersection all the time... And somehow, the guy who gets 20 cents a gallon more than the other two still manages to stay in business.

That used to be the norm up until the mid 80's. Gas stations used to always be clustered in 4's at intersections.

Ya I was going to say I guess it's not really any different then the 4 gas stations on each corner, 2-3 fast food places in the same shopping center and grocery stores next door to each other... it's all in the spirit of competition and variety!
As long as they aren't working together it really ends up being a better deal for the consumer!! :D

When we were in Boston a couple of years ago, I noticed that there were no less than three Dunkin Donuts on the Common.

Usually gas stations on corner locations with other stations do better then when by themselves.

In Phoenix there are 2 Super Walmarts (200,000 sq ft plus) within 1 mile of each other. The rep from Walmart Real Estate Dept told me that are the 2 best performing Walmarts in Arizona.

In Imperial Beach on 13th st and Imperial Beach Blvd there are 4 Liquor Stores, one on each corner. And there is also one on two to three blocks away on each side. They all do pretty well.

The Rite-Aid in Carp lost there liquor license for selling to minors. They closed there big store and moved into a tiny hole in the wall. I don't think they will make it. Bad location, small store.

I hope that's enough. If not send me a pm and i will send some more down there. We are running specials right now so things have been very busy despite the slow economy.
There's no business like HO business.:D

Here in Vegas there's alot of intersections that have 2 AmPm's, 2 7-11's, etc etc.
It's the same kind of deal. I don't get it.

Alot times this happens because of mergers and buyouts. I bet in the CVS case in HB that one of the stores used to be a Ecker Drug Store. Ecker was brought by CVS a few years ago.
