Im trying to gather spares for our racing effort next season, and one of my main issues is finding used spare tires. I have plenty of wheels, but no tires. I think its kinda silly, and impractical to buy brand new sets of tires just to use as spares. Does anyone use all terrains as spares, or race tires? Ive seen plenty of used ones really cheap on craigslist and thought thatd be a great way to stock up on spares. If so, what size works the best, and do you guys shave them? How do you shave them? Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. On a side note, if anyone has any used MT or Yok class 9 tires, Id be more than willing to buy them from you.

I know it has been said before but I would try and find a 16 or 12 guy that runs new tires each race and offer to buy their old ones. You would be surprised on how many guys have their "old" tires trashed or left at the tire shop. You can contact the Yok guy down in the OC and Im sure he comes across them often.

Ok cool, thanks for the input. Ive tried talking to some 16 and 12 guys at the races but havent had any luck. I actually just picked up a couple Yoks from Matt Creveling, and Jeff from McKenzies gave me the number of a 16 team that has a revolving stock of tires so Ill try them.
Just out of curiousity though, have any 9 guys tried running shaved all terrains? Ive seen some CODE guys that run BFG all terrains that arent shaved.

Yes And they work great.......we ran a 31 BFG and they where a tad to small,if you can get your hands on some 33 x 9.50 they will actully meet the rules when mounted.Good luck and shave them for sure

Oh cool thanks for the input! How do you shave them? We have a 4 inch disc grinder I was thinking might do the trick. Do they make a 33 x 9.5? Im retty sure them pretty sure they make a 32 x 9.5. Either way Ill keep my eyes open, itd be fun to try out.

You have to get them shaved as they have to be somewhat even.
Some guys on here can tell you where to get it done at as I have no clue as many of you know!

Yeah, I would just buy used ones that were worn down the same diameter, and just try to take off the edge to make them a little more round.
I was also trying to find info on the General Tire tires, but couldnt find anything on their website.

Try sending a PM to my brother "Polarcub" he looked into the General tires a little.
I heard they weren't as good as the Yoks or M/T's for the 9's. That is just second hand info though.

I have a set of new MT's that I will sell or trade for a set of BFGs. They are 31x9.50x15, and I am looking for 30x9.5x15 all terrains

Doug, do you know if they will do the shaving at all of their locations? Which location do you use?

Im sure they do but from what I understand they have the tools but they guy is the key. I guess it's just a off off road thing and only a few guys know how we like it. I use the Fontana and Bell Gardens stores.

Doug I have just found a new nitch for us....possibly.With our years of the chupa infestation we should obtain a tire shaver ma-chin' and become that "guy".:D

I did that Chris and let me tell you be very aware of what he is doing. I never thought you could screw up a basic back grooming. I had to see a doc for about 6 months before I could bare to go out.
