View Full Version : Would it be appropriate?

If you are looking into a car/truck in the RDC classifieds would it be appropriate to start a thread about it to gather opinions from others? I know in the past rdc users were able to leave comments about vehicles in the classified section but not any more. Was it the (usually hillarious) comments that made this feature go away?

I know I can contact the seller but since they have a vested interest in the sale price their opinions are obviously well, calculated... I was wondering if one could use the forum to go beyond that. RDCers are so packed full of info it seems a waste not to use the forum for opinions.

The problem I see is that if the opinions were negative it may cast shame on the seller and lessen the likelihood of a good/fast sell. The counterpoint here would be that their listing would get more views and that may help them if it is a good deal and a nice truck. Since i am looking to buy and not sell, would a thread about something in the classifieds be considered a commercial listing and against the forum rules? Is it just better to keep it to pms and off the forum. Maybe if the seller was cool about my starting a thread about their truck it could be allowed?

I live in AZ and am shopping (day dreaming) about buying a prerunner/chase truck and the majority of stuff listed in the RDC classifieds is in California. This makes it difficult to go look at these vehicles. There have been a few trucks I wanted a second/third/fourth/ hundreth opinion on.

I am just trying to remain a good RDCer so I ask again, would it be appropriate?

The comment section under each ad did exactly what you describe here. We have the watch out section for bad sellers and scam ads. If the seller would allow it I think that would be all right. Of course this is just my opinion...

Another concren is the lack of response people have when they tell you to email them regarding an item they are selling, and they send back NO replies. If it is sold, just a simple " it has been sold " would suffice.

Not an answer to your question...but an idea on making the classifieds more informative.

Video ads in the classifieds - Make a video of your car that includes all the pertinent info (kinda like a tour) and throw in a little action stuff too (prerunning, racing etc...) The video should be less than 3 min. (max) and point out all of the great features or why it's such a great deal etc etc.

This gives the seller more options to showcase their stuff and buyers a better feel for what they are purchasing... Create a new category in the RDC Tube forum for classifieds and the seller could link the video from their ad.

If not then the seller could just post up a video ad of their car on YouTube and provide a link in their classified.

I make product videos all day long and the feedback we get is that the video helped the buyer to make a more confident and informed decision which in turn, resulted in more sales...Product videos work.

Don't even get me started on the lack of good info on some adds. email me for a pic? get a good informative ad together. Two sentences dont cut it. The truck i am looking at says there is front dammage and no pic of the front of the truck.

Well with no pictures, is the damage a scratch or a front clip that is trash, makes it real easy for a potential buyer to want to skip to the next option

it says cosmetic and there is one pic of the truck but it only shows the back and side. GEEE, i wonder why???

Good ideas Dan. I had the fortune of friends that checked out my car for me. There are a lot of 'don't know it all's' here that have messed it up for the rest of us. I don't see why a thread to discuss a paticular vehicle would be bad as long as people kept it professional. Oh wait it is the internet.... Never mind...;)

RDC has helped me here. Offroad junkie is gonna take a look at it for me when I get the info. It is in his home town. Gotta love the forum for help.

Good ideas out there guys. I have used the classifieds tons for selling and buying. It has literally helped sell over 100 items. I try to be upfront/honest in my ads and provide as much info as possible without rambling. I also respond quickly to phone calls, emails and additional picture requests. My experience is that most people are not that responsive. I figure if I took the time to list it, I want to sell it and should make the time to try and actually sell it. Others seam uninterested in selling sometimes when you call. If everyone would make a somewhat similar effort the classifieds would be even more usable. How many times have you guys seen ads with to telephone, email or any way to contact the seller? I have seen more than my fair share.

Sorry Dan just saw this. Unfortunately I think this could turn into a real cluster fast with he said she said type posts with buddies backing the seller and others that might be hatin or telling the truth. With that said, whatever section is just that. Good luck.

Oh and if was the blazer, it's top notch. Never been off road. Haha
