I am reworking my oil cooling system and was wondering what people are running. Stock cooler with auxiliary? Full flow? What’s working for you guys?

I run the stock doghouse style cooler and fan shroud. Haven't had a problem yet.

I am not by any means an expert here but my car has a stock doghouse cooler and just run a filter on my full flow.

Our best luck with:

doghouse
full flow
oil filter
72 vane cooler or larger
spal fan as a puller, use a relay

gas on!

If I had a single seat car I would have an extra cooler besides the stock doghouse with close to the motor where the lines are out of danger. As said from a very young but powerful boy "Danger Never Takes A Vacation". lol now bck on track. If it's a 2 seat I would run a stock doghouse only. Reason being that a 9 car motor can be just fine with a stock cooler if your not going to be in 100+ degree races with long sand wash pulls up hill. Every car that I have had only had the stock cooler with full flow and oil filter. The main reason for not having one is the weight and the chance of the cooler breaking, bursting etc.. On top of that you have extra hose that can be cut or be added weight. Yeah you can keep a fitting on the lines to bypass it if it breaks but less is more in some cases.

The stock dog-house cooler is probably the best VW cooler ever made. I run that with an external filter and 36 row cooler without a fan. Our 7.5:1 compression ratio rule really helps the 9 cars to run cool.
