Im not sure where this would go so i thought i would just put it here.

Ive been looking around and i have decided i want to race score. but im not sure which class would be the best bet. although class 10 seems fun im not sure i can afford it.

So im just here to ask for some opinions? what is the best low-mid budget class to start racing in?

i know somewhat about chase, prep, pre runnning, having a solid team, pits, etc.

Ive been to lauglin, and ive been to the 1k. so im not a total newbie about baja.

However much money you have to pay for racing it will never be enough.

Keeping the car running good is 4 or 5 times more than the cost of the car, if not more.

x2

start with something like a 9 car, you will get good at reading terrain and have fun without breaking the bank. just my .02

And start with one of the hokey loop races. See WTAR for details.

although SCORE is a great series to run. I would start with in the MDR series or a smaller series first. get ur car, team, driving and money figured out. Then if all works out move up. definatly like class 9,5\1600,7,1450 something like that.

Class 12 or 16 are both great classes with solid entry levels at most series.
You can get a deal on cars right now also.

I plan on racing this year with a smaller series than score to get our feet wet and learn all the things we dont know.

Which series would be best to start out in? bitd, mdr, snore, more?

Ive looked but i can find any class 12 cars for sale besides the few on here
. can anyboday help?

I would talk to PDailey (on here). His team is fairly new although he has been around awhile. He runs in SNORE and loves it!

All I have to say is that you have picked the BEST series to race in! SCORE is the BEST! I would suggest starting in a smaller class with more competition like 1600 or maybe 1200, and there are some nice cars for sale in those classes. But you will enjoy SCORE no matter what class you race in, it is by far the best in my opinion. The races you have been to, 1k and Laughlin, are both good races just wait for the other 3 in the series, they all have something different about them and are all a ton of fun!

It depends on where you live! I would start in the MDR series. Entry fees are cheap it 2 hours from my house, dont have to worry about a TT running me over while Im trying to learn. MDR class 9 is how I would start.

Bike! This is the cheapest starter class, well maybe not cheapest but best bang for buck IMO. If you are decently fast you will smoke the majority of the other classes and have a great time doing it.

Class 9 or sportsman truck(1450) would be your most budget way to go race but like mentioned its not gonna be cheap at all. Between getting a race vehicle, tow vehicle, trailer, gas to get to the races gas for the race vehicle, tires, spares, tools, prep costs, testing costs and time, safety equipment, pit equipment, etc etc etc...
If your just starting out and want to learn go race MDR, MORE. and SNORE, they have the most reasonable entry fees compared to SCORE and BITD. And remember just go out have FUN, that's what this sport is all about!

I was looking into a 1450 truck?

would that be a good starter finding a well built one?

so far ive narrowed it down to class 9, 1600, or 1450. i not sure yetwhich would be best.

gbs89 - me and my dad will start out racing the mdr series.

If you know what your looking for you can find some good deals on a used 1450 truck, just have to check them out real good. A 1-2/1600 car is a good way to go but it can get a bit expensive with the car cost and prep. In my own opinion I think class 9 is the best way to go race on a budget and you learn A LOT running a limited car out there, you learn how to look for lines and read the terrain much better than something with a ton of travel that you just pin it through whatever.

we race in the mexican score races only. whatever you choose to do, remember to bring lots of money you don't like and wanna get rid of. a class 9 that is'nt all beat to crap would be the choice of smart people. you can bump up to whatever if you're so inclined and either sell the 9 car pretty easily or have a decent prerunner. you will be needing a prerun car you know. you'll have more fun than you've ever had in your life. welcome to the fray.

If your not going to start on a bike, a 9 car is the way to go, you will learn to pick good lines, carry speed and all the qualities that make a great driver. just cuz you can afford a TT or cl1 doesnt make you a good driver. Look where the best started, at the bootom. good luck hope to see you out there.
