Tracked down the oil leak on my Ranger to the timing cover. It is a slow seeping type of leak that only occurs w/ engine running. I have included a few pics of the problem area, 1st shows the bad and the 2nd is after cleaning (problem spot enclosed in red outline).

I was thinking of just putting something like JB weld on the problem area to avoid having to pull the timing cover. What I was wondering is if anyone knows of a product that might work better then JB weld. Need something that will wick down between the timing cover and eng. block and then set up and stay in place.

Has anyone ever used this stuff? http://www.permatex.com/products/Automotive/adhesives_sealants/sealants/Permatex_Form-A-Seal_Leak_Repair.htm

Thanks in advance for any help!

Take the timing cover off and do it right there is no way to clean the oil out and nothing will stick to it. Believe me there is no quick fix for oil leaks.

I second that opinion. If that stuff, or anything else, actually worked for more than a very short time, every air cooled VW engine owner would be buying it by the case.

Do it right and buy some Permatex aviation gasket maker. Approved by the FAA, meaning that it is approved for aircraft. Leaks are not a good thing at any altitude. If you follow the instructions exactly, it won't leak now or ever.

I agree with the fix it right part, but the J/B will definetly slow it down and is easy to get rid of when you do pull the cover.

I've used this stuff called "The right stuff" you can get it almost any local auto parts store. This stuff works great! Just make sure the area is very clean and dry first. Hopefully, what you are trying to cover/ seal up is not under any pressure, cuz that won't work at all. If you are just sealing something up that doesn't see pressure, this right stuff works like a champ.

Good luck.
