View Full Version : Is it just me or...

Have people on here really started to disregard communal etiquette?
What I mean is, there are a few threads I've seen in the Shop section (and elsewhere) where people are getting HAMMERED for their work. Some of it is constructive criticism, but in other cases, such as the Royalty Motorsports Class 1 thread, there are a bunch of people posting about cost being too high?? This forum is starting to feel more and more like the old forums I used to frequent. The reason I don't anymore is for this very reason...irrelevant bashing/ganging up on people.
There was another thread that someone had a set of link posted that IMO looked perfectly fine...they were tig'd and built by a reputable guy, but a couple guys started saying that they looked like *****...even if they DID look bad (which they didn't), how does saying anything other then "those don't look safe" or "care to post detail shots of those welds" help anyone? The fabricator had to post up better pics/details to get them off the guys back...
This slander might negate someone's real world rep and to be honest, it's making me not want to post up work that I'm associated with in fear of getting harassed or having it lower the reputation of the work/value of the vehicle.
What happened? This forum really used to feel like a community sharing a common interest, but seems like it's turning into just any other internet forum.
Is it just me or has it been getting worse lately??? I'm concerned!

You do have legitimate concerns. I share in them as well...

I told John B in a personal email the forum has been going to crap the last couple years. I have been a member for a long time and I have never seen it as bad as it is. I think the chat board needs to go to the bottom of the page, posting limits of 3 or 5 per day, and people's post limit reduced for taking threads off tangent. I will admit I am guilty of tangents and shenanigans at times and I wouldnt mind being penalized for the greater good of the forum. I see people with 5000+ posts who have been here about a year...WTF?
Now these are only my thoughts and as a personal freind of both Klaus and John I aplaud what they do and would never tell them how to run their forum but I know for fact they see the changing of the site as well as the alienating of good people on the site.
Now if we could just bring back the classifieds from 6 or so years ago...that was the "invisible hand" at its best putting goods at their price.

I totally agree, I've been checking out RDC less and less. It seems like it used to be about desert racing and has now become a fashion show.

I havent been here on the site that long, but I can say that I am noticing change....at a drastic rate. Take my thread for example like the TauMau stated in his first post. http://www.race-dezert.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56716
Nothin but bashin about some links. Turns out once I posted more detailed pictures, most retracted there original comments. Why is this? What will it take to end it?

or better yet the guys that bash you on your gramer and spelling if they cant figure out what one is saying then they have a problem .they will come into a thread just to nail you on those items and not say one thing that has to do with the thread .

You sure hit that nail on the head.
I get jumped on and put out to pasture for bringing up the words "dezert" and "race" in the same sentence. Everything is high production assembly lines or nothing. WAJ!
Just about every time I mention making a shop tool or car component on the cheap, I get called names before even having a chance to show how I did it.
It would sure be nice to have a "graffiti" removal crew.

You added a Y to read in the first post too.. WTF man?? have you ever heard of a.... :D:D
I know Im guilty of not bieng the best poster at times... as I've been out of the scene the last couple years, I havent added much quality to the content... and because of this I tend to stay out of the Dez and Shop sections.
As far as bashing peoples work, its one thing if you are building your own toys, but when you've been building and selling your "fabwork" to other people for awhile, and its crap work, you deserve to be criticized (this is NOT directed toward ANYONE). Everything in the industry is getting bigger, heavier and faster... and is becoming increasingly dangerous to those who dont have a clue as to good fabwork vs. bad fabwork.

The numbers speak for themselves,
In January 2003 there were 530 members on this site.
As of today, Members: 18,665, Active Members: 4,629
Quantity has long since replaced quality.

Where is Bob Shreaves?
Sheaves I suspect you mean. I think he is in Japan doing consulting/contract work.

I see the same thing. I hung around for a couple of years before ever posting on RDC.
I remember back when there were a lot of big time racers that visited the site. Most never post any more and I know of a few others that would like to post but won't because they don't want to deal with the "know-it-alls".
I really wish it would go back to the older RDC. It bums me out to see 10 threads about the same race because they all get so side tracked all the time.

It is up to us the readers to report the jerk offs that are here to just talk smack and run off people. There is room for all levels of fabrication and design here. We can not all be DUMP. Even DUMP got started somewhere. We the readers that care to see what other guys are working on or offer opinions that are honest and constructive have to boot these dicks off of here. Report the guy right away. Everyone else who sees this go down, do the same. There is some great content on here and great advice we just have to be more diligent about weeding out the smack talkers that depleat the content quality.
