View Full Version : New Forum Feature Explained - Post Rating

This new new feature provides the ability to track the quality of post contributions made by our registered members.

Each post may be ranked 'up' (+1 point) or 'down' (-1 point) by you. Each member may only do this once per post. Once a post has reached a certain point threshold, it's rank changes accordingly.

All posts start as 'Neutral'.
Positively ranked posts may have their rank changed to 'High Ranked' or 'Highest Ranked'. Negatively ranked posts may have their rank changed to 'Low Ranked' or 'Lowest Ranked'.

Whenever a post has its rank changed, the post creator has his/her rank totals updated accordingly.

Once a post reaches a -10 count it will "disappear" into a collapsed state and needs to be clicked on to read it. This allows moderation by everyone. If you see a bad post and flag it minus it will go away if enough forum members feel the same way.

Hope everyone will like this new feature.

Just to demonstrate how a post can be voted out I invite everyone to "minus" this post to see its effect.
Once it hits -10 it will go away...but any positive vote afterward may bring it back.

Lets play with this.

I see that after I voted it simply tells me that I voted down and the -2 score went away.

Can you explain the "View Stats" now found under the Avatar?

Now after I've left the thread and returned I once again see the "Score"

refresh and you will see the updated status. you can also click on the -3 score or whatever it may be and it will give a breakdown of plus and minus vote counts. Example: +0 / -3

Yes I can.

It shows how many of your posts reached any of the 4 Status. You will see a lowest Ranked count of 1 once my "test post above" reaches -10.

The more high ranked or highest ranked a user gets reflects a popular poster. Other forum members appreciate your posts and its a reflection of your contribution on the forum. It's similar to "reps" BUT this big new advantage is that now a post can get removed by everyone if a majority agrees its needed.

Does this mean Chase2 might be in trouble "down the road"? I'm kidding. Good luck Chase!

Awesome Klaus!!

This will let people know what is thought about their posts without having rep given or taken away.

Something tells me I'm in trouble though.......:D:o

Edit: I take it that the WHATEVER section has no effect on this?

Does this mean Chase2 might be in trouble "down the road"? I'm kidding. Good luck Chase! Hmmm..... could be, I don't always post what others want to hear. It will be interesting to see how this works out. Funny how many lurkers don't post, but provide PM support. On the other hand there could be lurkers who don't support either. Could be a chance for the RG lovers to gang up as they've been known to do.

What happens if you quote a post that later gets voted down?

so do the ratings only apply to the individual post and not to the thread it self ?

a example if someone post a comment that a certain thread sucks and you
do agree that it does do you enter plus or minus?

klaus
March 26th, 2009, 14:44
I applies to a post not a thread. The post start started the thread can no be "voted out".

Why don't you guys vote out my previous post that I've quoted here like you did with with the other and we can see the effect.

So then it appears that just like if a user has deleted his own post, the low ranked post, if quoted, still shows up in the quote even after it get's closed.

Also I just figured out that the post is just "Hidden", not deleted, and there are ways to view it!
