So I'm looking around at used axle housings for a 9" floater, my question is, having never worked on one of these, how do I calculate what the trackwidth is going to be based on the width of the housing? Thanks! Oops, before I go, what is general concensus regarding a centered or offset pinion? Looks to me like most of the fabricated housings have the third member centered (offset pinion?)...is this correct?

It depends on the hubs. If you measure from end of snout to end of snout, you can ad about 1" per side to allow for the hub and driveplate. Most 9" rear and have the pinion centered. There are two different axle lengths.

On the old Dana 60's you would offset the pinion about 3/4 of an inch to make the axles equal length.

If my memory serves me right my Tubeworks housing was about 78" wide and with 35x 12.50 bfg's on 0 offset wheels the track width is 89" . hope this helps.
