Alright here is a thread for the planning and talk about the upcoming Buttonwillow race August 15th.

Its pretty sweet finally a race thats semi close to us in Southern CA. Only about 3-4 hours from San Diego area.

So tonight the tranny is removed from the engine, and the engine gets torn down till its too dark to see outside. haha. atleast a quart of water came out first when I drained the oil. I am assuming this is due to a cracked block, as the motor sounded like it was playing ping pong with a connecting rod before it seized. LOL

Its sort of a waste if we dont know the exact layout though. Friday before tech would be best.

Testing the car its self the day before the race can be good and bad. Good because it gives you one last shake down of the car and a look at the track. Bad because it gives more chances of something happening to it/crashing. Even if its not your fault there are others on the track that day.

I personally think its a good idea to test especially if we are going to have new components on the car (engine, different tires/wheel size). Just have to remember to take it easy and not break it before the race even starts lol.

Its not a full semi trailer. I fudged just a lil bit, Its a 30ft stacker with a shop inside. Its just easier to call it a semi to people that dont get it. It will probably be pulled up by a real semi though! plus 2 30ft toy boxes. Thats if we get accepted. Im a bit worried Ive never done this so hopefully I have all the stuff filled out correctly! but WHEN we get accepted we are down to party

I got the motor and trans on the floor and disassembled. Wasnt too bad solo really. I cant for the life of me, figure out what the dumb bell lookin tranny mount balancer is designed like that for. It must weight 25 lbs all by itself.

Good news--I think. Your team has officially been ACCEPTED for The Buttonwillow Histrionics (aka LeMons So-Cal) at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in lovely downtown Buttonwillow CA, Aug 15 & 16. Now what?

A: Read this email completely.

B: Forward it to the rest of your team, one of whom is certainly smarter than you are. (You agreed to be captain, so clearly you're not the genius.)

C: Acknowledge your acceptance with a reply to Nick Pon that says "Team (blah blah) Received the Acceptance." If you don't confirm, we'll assume you've wised up and will give away your slot. Nick's email address is npon@driversdoor.com. Oh, and if you actually write "blah blah" on the email, we'll penalize you 855 laps just 'cause we're tired of hearing that one.

D: Finish your application data. If you left anything blank on your online application, you'll now see a big red INCOMPLETE at the top of the Home page. Please try to resolve all that ASA-frickin'-P.

BUTTONWILLOW'S TRACK DAY
Buttonwillow Raceway Park will host an open-track test day on Friday with specific LeMons groups interspersed. Call the track's front office (661.764.5333) for times, details, and prices.

MOTELS, DIRECTIONS, ETC: Check out the Buttonwillow Histrionics Event Page, and come back often--whenever we learn something new, we'll update it here.

PARTICIPANT-DISCOUNT SAFETY GEAR: Thanks to event-sponsor Pyrotect, everything an individual needs to pass driver tech (full-face SA2005 helmet plus SFI-rated driving suit, undies, gloves, and shoes) can be bought in one box at a LeMons-only discount: $425 for the bundle. All the gear has been pre-approved--just put it on and go.

Pyrotect also offers discounted LeMons rates on neck braces (at least one is required per team--this isn't part of the bundle); SFI five-point belts; and stand-alone SA2005 helmets. To get the subsidized LeMons rates, you must order online via the LeMons-rate ordering page.

OVERNIGHT CAMPING: The gates open at 7am Friday morning; until then, you're on your own. Friday and Saturday camping is $50 per team, paid in advance via your home page. Buttonwillow has about 48 powered RV spaces--first come, first hooked up, no extra charge. Day-trippers, please leave the hookups for overnighters. They need them to run their margarita machines.

NOISE LIMIT: Maximum allowable noise level is 92dB @ 50 feet. In other words, street-legal mufflers are mandatory--no straight-pipes or hollowed-out race junk allowed. Noisy cars won't be allowed to race. Please be sure to read the new rules regarding exhaust pipes, fuel, and tech inspection (Rules 3.25 through 3.27) in the LeMons Rulebook.

RACE #s: Now that your team has been accepted, a pulldown menu of car #s is visible on the Edit Car Info page of your online registration. If the number you want isn't shown, somebody else already has it. Pick another one. Numbers should be shown on both sides of the car plus the hood or roof.

COMP LICENSES: Every driver needs a valid competition license. A pulldown list of accepted licenses appears on the Driver Info page of your online registration. If have one of these licenses, you need to bring it with you and show it at tech. If not, select the "I Need to Buy a Temporary Competition Membership" option; the $50 cost will appear in your fee total.

LeMons licenses bought at previous 2009 events are good for the rest of the year--just select that option on the pulldown menu. Licenses bought at 2008 races are not valid; you'll need to buy a new one for 2009.

ROSTER CHANGES: For now, it's still okay to make updates and changes to your online registration. If the changes affect your entry fees, the total will update itself automatically. About a week before the race we'll lock down the database, after which no more additions or changes are possible. We'll give you a few days' warning before that happens, but once it's gone, it's gone.

RULES: THE LeMONS RULEBOOK HAS BEEN UPDATED! Read the complete Rulebook at www.24HoursofLeMons.com/rules/ right now, and re-check it often, refreshing your browser each time. DROPOUTS: When you enter a race, you're buying the right to compete--not a guarantee from us that you'll get your own act together. If you drop out, can't finish your car, blow up, go broke, catch swine flu, step on your own wiener, or otherwise fail to avail yourself of your grid spot, you forfeit your entry fees. That's why they're called "entry" fees, not "I got to drive the whole race" fees.


3) PAY UP, BUSTER
Your entry fees are now due. These need to be forked over in full by Saturday, 20 June '09--miss that deadline, and your spot may be given to the next team on the waitlist. Need to beg an extension? Please drop me an email before the due date.

Your total fees are shown on your registration Home page. Of course, this assumes that you filled out the driver, crew, camping, license, and transponder info correctly. As far as the Stang homo... That guy is pissing me the F off. He doesn't have a clue! Says I came in at a wierd angle! are you kidding me? I set up outside, and if it was the wrong angle, why the F did his driver slide over in ront of me to take it! I did NOT appologize in the pits. I would have, as I loaned there driver a Sharpie, so he could write "I will not pass under yellow" 100 times on his Mustang, but then we had the motor trouble and I got side tracked.

This is why incar cameras rule. Chase cams are awesome because they record to compact flash cards and can go a long time lol. I need to get another 16gig or 8gig card before Buttonwillow and we can record 100% of it.

Lol.. I swear that whole lap leading up to him, the car was getting loose. I caught him in no time, then spent a lap getting up to him to pass him. Going down that hill before I hit him, I stayed straight and stayed right... setting up the left hand apex.. where as he went left then came back right to set up for it.

I'd chalk it up as a racing incident.. He acted like he was the fastest car on the track, and clearly he wasnt..

there will be fuel costs for the race car and haulers. (who knows how much?) the diesel is cheap and we run pump gas in the car which was like 120 for the weekend if I remember correctly)

With a 6 person driver list the in car time will likely be singular (ANyone have a comments/ concerns with this speak up.) Each guy gets one ride. Black flags will change this a bit and a driver rotation is mandatory if ya get one. You bone out? yer loss... Also in the unlikely event we blow up there are no refunds... Life is a gamble...

this will make it so we arent wasting time in the pits when we should be clicking off laps. Six drivers is still alot.

The tank will likely be set up at the judges penalty area and I offered it as a new penalty feature. They liked the idea. The mega pit will hopefully be located as close to the penalty area as possible. Getting to lemons right when the gates open with the trailers is vital to secure good real estate that has a quick on and off the track access. The pits have speed limits and this is where you can save a lot of time. The track layout here is new to me and the pits/paddocks seem a ways from the track entrances but who knows? We will see when we get there.

The pits have speed limits and this is where you can save a lot of time. The track layout here is new to me and the pits/paddocks seem a ways from the track entrances but who knows? We will see when we get there.

Depending on how much the rental dudes wanna charge, prices are all over the place basically and i have not locked one down yet, I may have the whole thing covered by a sponsor or two who are into the roundy round racing scene but, I would rather pump money into the car and not the tank so yea, we will be happy to take yer money and let you piggy back on the pure brilliance of my dunk tank idea. I see the RDC teams working as a united force in the pits however when the green flag drops you will only be a distant image in our mirror.

The day before the race is open track day. for a fee(dunno how much) they let ya run. when we did that a thill we fugged up the car and spent the day fixing it and there was no refund....$475.00 for a few laps sucked.

About 3/4 of the field wont have driven the track before the green flag flys. Learning the apexes and track is obviously easier at non race speeds and there are lots of cautions so they are handy in this respect. The race is more about clickin laps and staying clean, fast and few driver changes and fueling. you don't win lemons in one turn but you can lose it in one.

we kicked the idea of practice day around before and never decided. i am open to it but don't consider it completely necessary. just my opinion.... when there are a hundred other idiots like us out there that is where the men get separated from the boys...

As for wheels I ran aluminums for 2 races but wheels got thrashed bent and all curbrashed,Actually had other cars paint in the bead .

I like the steel better but I also went from a 205 40 17 to a 195 60 14 and sidewall helped for off course excursions .

Im just looking for anything really. Im pretty skilled in alot of areas, backround is as a mercedes benz tech, but have done construction house repair, sales, marketing all that fun stuff. just tossin it out there.

As for the track day, we just thought it would be wise if all 5 of us knew the car and what it was going to handle like on a track. We were thinking of doing a couple autocross races but werent really sure. Was just a thought.

We all need to dress up like the hoff, look at the guys who won Reno. Also, the armored car we are planing on robbing has had a schedule change. This annoyance has created a conflict with our money launderer and he has decided to increase his cut which we aren't happy about however complaining to him in the past has had unfortunate results. We would like to race with our knee caps and arms not broken.

As you can see none of these complications are within our control and we have taken measures to adapt to them. Hopefully you understand and grant us the extension so we don't have to expand our operation into other areas.

Actually when I had the 2 street signs as a spoiler /road closed ahead .I handled great and also filling the 5 gallon cooler filled with weigh helped for weight transfer in corner !!

For the Hoffinator you need get a bunch a big Boxes on roller with all sorts of lights that plug into the car with dry ice causing fog as rolling thru tech also get a bunch of Drama/starving actors dressed in Lap coats walking around car with clipboards w/checklists.

How about transform the Hoffinator to the High speed jet car .Just get 10-12' airducting going down to bucket with dry ice.

Also get a load speaker with all sorts of KITT talking but Get DAn200 to synthesize his voice in some crazy computer program to sound like KITT (because Dan has nothing better to do )Have the recording of KITT saying **BAN ME****BAN ME****BAN ME****BAN ME** about Judge John Leibermann ,judge Murilee and Jay .Talk some crap about the other teams .

UPDATE...

I booked us 4 rooms at the "Super 8". Each room is 50 bucks a night. (2 rooms have 2 queen beds, two are just one queen each...I figured Pat would want his own room and so would Roger) This rate is cheaper than the AAA rate I guess. No additional discount was offered for running the car number 8 at the race that weekend. Sorry, I tried... A while back pat said he might bring his Weekend Warrior for the trip so we can make changes if we wanna modify the hotel reservations. Please post up if that is the case...

I have also made progress on locating the Dunk Tank. Tracking one of these down in the track area was not easy... I finally found a place in Bakersfield. I am working out the details with them and should have a deal made soon.

I have also become a member of another Knight Rider forum in an effort to be able to record our own words in the voice of KITT. No reply's as of yet. There is one place that sells a thing for actual kitt replicas but it would be cheaper to probably just fly the actual guy who does the voice in for the race on a private jet, have him sit on the hood for tech inspection, and fly him home again...

I am now lookin for a better way to do this...If anyone has a link or info please dont hesitate to let me know what it is...

I did like Chris O's idea (thanks chris) of having a computerized voice heckle the judges that we could play while in tech. "hey you hairy bastards, you dont need to look under the hood. Ther is no fancy cheater motor in there!" or "those arent cheater springs. I am programed to only tell the truth and I am telling you those are stock springs... cross my hood and hope to die"

Also this dork at my work got a totally tunered out civic (neon lites under it, painted white dash board and seats, dumb body kit, huge stereo etc)and he is gonna "tone it down" i suggested he remove the big aluminum wing and am gonna see if he will give it to me cheap or free...

If there is no functional rear diffuser to accompany the wing, the "spoiler" is rice (CR 12.56). That said I would gladly advise on some rear lemonstek aero!

I have also become a member of another Knight Rider forum in an effort to be able to record our own words in the voice of KITT. No reply's as of yet. There is one place that sells a thing for actual kitt replicas but it would be cheaper to probably just fly the actual guy who does the voice in for the race on a private jet, have him sit on the hood for tech inspection, and fly him home again...

I am now lookin for a better way to do this...If anyone has a link or info please dont hesitate to let me know what it is...

If you want to be cheap though you can just edit a CD that plays comments in the order you want which is what I have. You also need to find someone with an Itouch or Iphone and get the phonerider app to use as a VM! Good luck with the judging and it's nice to see another import KITT
