We are extremely happy to announce Off Road Warehouse (ORW) as the title sponsor for our September 19th race.
The ORW Grand Prix presented by DRIVE will be a two heat format with averaged times from both heats deciding the winners. Classes will be split up into groups based on normal average speeds and will run on an 11 to 13 mile course. This race will feature the PRO 1600 group and is a points race for all classes.
As part of their sponsorship package ORW will be providing event t-shirts to all entrants, volunteers, and registered media and will be hosting a post race BBQ on Saturday night. ORW will be providing the food and drinks for the BBQ and we have a special group that will be cooking the food and asking for donations for a worthy charity. Well announce more details about the BBQ and the charity as things get firmed up.
ORW will also have their chase truck on site Friday night at Tech to help anyone with minor issues that can be fixed on the spot. (d-rings, tie wire, minor welds, etc.)
The ORW contingency awards are being doubled for all classes at this race and they are working on an extra special prize for the PRO 1600 class winner.
Entry fees for this race only are being reduced! DRIVE paybacks and bonuses will remain the same.
Pro - $420 or $380 if you register and pay in full by 2:00 PM 9-5-09
Sportsman - $300 or $260 if you register and pay in full by 2:00 PM 9-5-09
Trophy Kart - $40 or $30 if you register and pay in full by 2:00 PM 9-5-09
More details coming soon.
We want to thank ORW as well as our other title sponsors for taking a chance with a new series. We greatly appreciate your confidence in us. We also want to thank all of the contingency sponsors that have been supporting the series and the racers.

I remember when we were in Jr. High; we snuck into the neighbor's pool one night and went Skinny Dipping with some girls from school. My best friend was worried about getting busted, so he "just watched". Come jump in the "Pool" Master Luke - it is much more fun!:D

this was posted in the general discussion:
Drive/ORW Grand Prix Sept. 19th charity dinner-
Thanks to the hard work of Mike Harvey we have lined up our charity organization for the post race BBQ at the ORW Grand Prix. ORW is graciously going to be providing the food and drinks for the event. DRIVE will set up the equipement, and Mike and his fellow students from Cal Poly Pomona State University will be cooking it all up and collecting donations.
"The group that will be preparing the meal is a group of students from Cal Poly Pomona State University. We pride ourselves on bettering our lives while helping out the lives of others. We donate time and hold charitable events to help the community as a whole. I felt that it would be a great way to help the desert racing community, which I love immensely and am a member, and its surrounding community by giving back to worthy a cause. If all goes well with this event i would like to hold larger and more profitable events. this is just a stepping stone for future endeavors." .......Mike Harvey
The charity in which we will be raising money for is YouthAIDS. YouthAIDS and its Parent Philanthropy PSI(Population Services International) are working in more than 60 countries around the world to help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS, especially among the world's most vulnerable, young people. Youth Aids approach stresses self-empowerment and healthy decision-making among youth, including the use of effective health products and services such as HIV counseling and testing. Our approach targets and educates at-risk youth groups through a variety of ways, including the use of music, television and SPORTS, peer education and community mobilization.
With a $10 contribution, PSI is able to provide one youth with a year of necessary health products, services and valuable health education to help educate and protect them against HIV.
In the United States
Roughly one million people are living with HIV/AIDS in the United States.
Since the start of the AIDS epidemic, 1.5 million Americans have been infected with HIV and more than 524,000 have died of AIDS.
At least 40,000 people are infected each year.
African Americans account for 48% of new HIV infections.
AIDS is the leading cause of death for African American women aged 25 to 34 and HIV rates among Hispanic women are increasing.
The number of women living with HIV has tripled in the last two decades.
At least half of all new infections are among people under the age of 25.
Washington, DC has the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rates in the United States - one in 20 people are living with HIV or AIDS.
Global
33.2 million people now live with HIV or AIDS.
In 2007, approximately 2.5 million people were infected with HIV.
Every day, over 6800 people become infected with HIV - almost five people per minute.
5700 people die from AIDS every day.
One child dies every minute.
15 million children around the world have been orphaned by AIDS, losing one or both parents to the disease.
Every fifteen seconds, another person age 15-24 becomes infected with HIV/AIDS.
Most people living with HIV are unaware they are infected. Knowing their status is critical in preventing the spread of HIV.
Without a cure, education and prevention are the most effective ways to stop the spread of HIV.
-It is this prevention and education in which PSI and YouthAIDS is trying to achieve.
YouthAIDS is a global initiative of PSI working in over 60 countries to spread awareness of HIV/AIDS and to educate and empower young people to protect themselves against the disease.

I felt that it needed to be in the DRIVE discussion as well:
please come out and support our cause... this is going 2 be a great event and the volunteers that will be preparing the meal will also be volunteering at checkpoints, road crossings, start finish and scoring during this DRIVE racing event... i am very proud to be apart of this event. for those that have volunteered in the past there's no better feeling than knowing that u have done something to help out the lives of people less fortunate than yourselves.
please come out DRIVE is a great organization and are in it for its racers as well as the surrounding community...
even if you are not racing you should come out and spectate, DRIVE is some of the best promoters out there
lets get as many racers out there and race with DRIVE they are here to stay, and of course help out with the charity event....
Thank you so much for reading,

Yea, true he does show up last minute. Last weekend was alright, it was different running a different series in a place where I have never run before (Barstow). Just like Plaster city you have to know all of the right "lines". I was running in 4th place but on the last lap I broke a rear torsion bar. It was a bummer, I had 18 more miles, so I limped in the car on three wheel and it was frustrating watching guys that I had already passed pass me back while I was slowly going for the finish, I ended up 8th place. It was fun though! I thought PC was rough... until I went to barstow!

The real question is where are all the Southern California / PC locals at? This is the first chance in years for the 1600 guys/gals to run a PRO 1600 race close to home. You have to run at least 1 PRO 1600 race before the year end Primm race to win the championship and the $$.

I was wondering the same thing, to be honest I don't know how big Pro 1600 is anymore... It has been a while since PRO 1600 was out in PC, I think the dash a few years back was the last time. MORE and SNORE races are big in 1600 with or with out PRO 1600, so it will be interesting to see if some new names from PRO 1600 come to PC to play!

Just a little insite for some folks. There has been a lot of talk, some wishful, some insiteful about Rob possibly coming out for the DRIVE race in Sept. Here is all the info that exists on that. Rob was invited by a team member of his to join us for this race. He was asked to consider it. Hopefully he will make the haul down south to race his 1600. I hope he uses it to bring the family and relax. Have a good time racing with us "grass roots" type!
So Luke, does this mean you might be able to talk your way into another race if he does show? Maybe the car will be ready?!;) Possible late entries for an already good sized field?!
The 1600 entry list looks great. I hope I get to watch that race instead of being on the course with them. Guess I will have to see who is being grouped with who.

Ok who else is getting excited about this race? Heidi and Ashcraft will be racing. Crud I have to keep a close eye on the mirrors. The Pro 1600's are going to be blasting and battling it out, glad I get to watch that one.
Everything is loaded up and heading out in the morning. This is going to epic!!!!!!

He is afraid:eek:.
It would have been even better of a race with Luke and Dan in the 1600 field. This was the fastest group of 1600 in plaster city this year! Very fun race and great format. DRIVE is doing all the right things. To bad PRO 1600 is dead. They missed a great race.

Are you talking about the september race? I raced primm the weekend before it and lost a motor... But if your talking about November, it's cuz we are spending enough money and have plenty of work and racing to do at the Baja 1000!!!

I am so stoked that you guys are "returning" to Baja. I can honestly say that out of any family of racers, the McMillin's were truly missed from the Baja races (at least IMHO).
Bummer you can't make the Nov. race, but the Baja is calling and that's a great thing!
Good luck to your whole family.

Thank you, we can't wait to get back to baja, my favorite place on earth!!! Can't wait to race my first Baja 1000 and return to all our fans and go to all the towns we have always helped over the years, they have missed us these passed few years, we are stoked to go back!
