Dunlop MX51

Anyone have any experience with these tires in intermediate to hard terrain? Like the desert and trails? Have heard some good reviews about these tires and before I buy some tires I have in mind Id like to get some opinions on these MX51's. Also how are people liking the Bridgestone 304 (Front I believe) and the 404 rear I pretty sure thats what it is. Thanks!

these are supposed to be the upgrade to the 756RR's

and I loved those tires a lot. Ill be putting that 51 on my bike next

The sidewalls on the tires aren't very stiff, since this isn't a hardpack tire. The MX51 supposedly better than the 756R, and that speaks volumes in itself. I ran the 404 Bridgestone for the first time since I got it for free, and man, it felt like crap compared to the 756. It was very unpredictable on slick hardpack, tending to lose traction without notice. Give the MX51 a try, you'll be happy you did.

The 756F sidewall wasn't stiff.
But the 756FRR was. Very different tires. RR is the Race Replica and it was just that. A bad ass tire. My fav front ever. Next is the MT18(discontinued) and then the Maxxis DezIT.

But tires are weird. Everyone will tell you something different.
You have to find what your comfortable on.

756 front and rear. Never a problem weather in Mexico or the motocross track. I have ridden this combo for years and side wall flex has never been a problem. Like you said, everyone has a set-up that they like and how the combo suits them. I weigh 225# and run the thickest MS tubes, 756 Dunny's. This combo has worked on YZ 450s to XR 650s in Mexico and I also start with not more then 13 -14# air in Mexico. Remember the tire will heat up. Never snake eyed in Mexico. Moto, same except 11-12#.
MX51s are great too. I like the fact that they have more bite in ruts. BRAAAP

The old 695 AT was the best tire IMO. The stopped making it and I think the 756 is what took its place. Not as good in my book. I just switched to the Maxxis Desert IT and it is great!

I have gotten mixed reviews on the Maxxis Desert IT, about half love them and half hate them. I will try them one day but IM leaning pretty hard towards a newly designed tire such as the MX51, lot of people liked the 756 and this tire can only be better.

I love the rear since it lasts longer than anything else I have found. Only prob is both the front and rear have been a little slick for me. Still like them a lot though.

Ya like Chaser said, the RR is the good tire which has been replaced with the mx51. The F version was crap. And as far as the Maxxis IT goes, I hated it. Once I got barely any wear on them, I was sliding all over the place and couldn't corner for crap.

Do the mx51.

I have the mx51's on my mini, and they are the best tires I've had. I've ridden all the Milestone tracks and Wildomar OHV with them, as well as lots of street riding, and they hold up great. On the hard packed sections of the track, they grip really good. I did not slide at all, like I did with Starcrosses, which I also tore chunks out of the knobbies on the track. The mx51 knobbies are holding up well. No issues on the rocky, rutted trails either. The sidewall is not as aggressive as other tires I've had, but I have no complaints.

For MX they are great. For trail - there are better tires available for less money. I would equate the MX51 on the trail to internet porn. A lot of visual, money and no satisfaction. If you are a Dunlop fan, they make a dez tire that works wonders.

Im against the 739 as I heard that once it wears past 20% its a crappy tire. So IM looking for other options.

If you are a Dunlop fan, they make a dez tire that works wonders.

yep that's a good set up.. I like the 745 in everything except soft sand with a hard surface underneath.

I also like running the IRC M5B on the back . I run the 140 /18 (i know.. it's big) on the back of my XR650R and it wears great and is predictable at all speeds. Holds up to pavement very well.

Yes my opinion. Personally I do not race with Dunlop tires. I prefer Bridgestones :) I get them for much less and I am very happy with the traction and life of the tire.

Some people are brand loyal, so that is why I suggested the Dunlop Desert tire.

I like my 606's thats why I was trying to stay with Dunlops but am open to any brand of tires.

After much research I went with the Gritty Bridgestone ed78 and soon I will get the ed77 front, thanks for all the replies!
