let see and hear some good crash stories i dont have a pic but when i was 15 i started riding and i was getting ahead of myself and i hit a little hill jump and landed fine. then i decided i was going to ride over the berm and race past my dad when i went over the berm i saw a fire hidrent ( this is in temecula before they got that damn no free riding out in the winery's) with the little experiance i had on the bike i locked up the front brakes the bike hit the hidrent and i hit the dirt. dislocated my arm and broke my couler bone. wish i had a pic but here are some cool pics i bet have one hell of a story behind them. http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/grin.gif

dont have any pictures of the crash, but it's a good story. me and a group of friends were out at dumont around presidents day this year, 2nd big ride on my new 03 cr250, cruising around and I found this little 60ft step up/ table kind of jump;(I used to be able to hit this kinda stuff backwards on my 125) so my friend charges it and clears it, so I charge it 3rd gear pretty strong, i'm like three feet off to the side of the center of the lip, but I just give allitle more throttle thinking I'll be o.k.; landed flat at the top, bounced down the 10ft or so landing, legs up in the air, let go, bike hit the ground then I hit the bike. broke my humerus (upper arm) in 3 places and got a 2nd degree burn on my right forearm from my paddle spining on it. no health insurance at the time so my friend drove my truck back to riverside (w/ vegas traffic, it took about 5hrs or so), got my surgery in july (titanium plate and 6 screws) and till now i'm still not healed, but hopefully my next ride will be thanksgiving @ ocotillo. i'll try and post some pics of the aftermath (31 staples).
-next time, I'll hit the lip dead center!

I've only got one crash pic, I'll have to scrounge it up one night and post here. It's really old and pretty comical!!! I've also got a decent video shot of me cartwheeling down the face of shell reef from the top about 8 years ago.
Best story...
Hmmm, when I was about 14 years old. My Dad, me and a friend went out to Ocotillo Wells. Me and my friend were on bikes and my dad was in his buggy. We decided to head out to shell reef and told my Dad, he said he'd be about 5 minutes behind us. So we took off over the ridge we were camped against and across holmes camp. On the ridge line west of Holmes there used to be a fun step down. probably about a 40' gap and a 15' drop in height from the take off to the landing. My friend and I started doing loops on this jump. (This is when I learned about spotters!!!) As we're doing this jump over and over, my father comes over the ridgeline across the valley. He sees us come over the hill, turn around and take off over the other side. Him not knowing we were doing loops on this jump procedes to drive up the landing and follow us. My friend takes off first. He comes down right in front of my Father who has just enough time to swerve and miss him. I'm right on my friends azz though and manage to case the buggy. I'm on a '86 TT350 (read that as a tank of a bike kinda like the -83-84 XR350!!!) I come down and case it right on the drivers side windseild tube. When I say case, I mean seriously motor tube on the bike right to the windsheild tube. I remember coming over the jump, seeing my Dad's eyes bigger then ever and his mouth drop open. I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS LOOK!!!!!! He then laid over into the passanger seat cause for once, luckily he wasn't wearing his shoulder belts and no one was with him. At this point I closed my eyes and held on. I hit the buggy and bounced over it. Some how I managed to avoid hitting any thing but the ground with my body. I tweaked my knee but was fine the next day.
Damage... Flattened left frame rail under the motor on my TT350, if you're ever looking to buy one, check to make sure it's not my old one!!! The buggy frame on the driverside top got pushed back 4". We had to hack it up and use a come-a-long and porta-power to tweak it back semi straight, then reweld it back up.
If I had been inches one way or the other it woulda been SERIOUSLY ugly I think. I don't know how we both got out of it unharmed. I think if I'd been to the left at all I woulda ended up tangled in the frame. If I'd gone right at all I think I would of ended up straddling the windsheild tube with my croch or hit the rear tire dead on which woulda sent the bars into my gut with an insane hit. I seriously still get frieghtened thinking about this accident to this day something like 12 years later. I shoulda been seriously f'ed up as well as my Dad. Somehow niether of us got hurt or killed. That's precisely when I learned to have a spotter on jumps!!!!
That's my worst accident for sure... No injury, my injuries (2 torn ACL, Meniscus, PCL) have been from one stupid small jump and one stupid huge jump. Neither are close to what this one was. I'll look for photos of this and my one in progress crash to post!!!

Yeah, same sort of thing, only there used to be an entire magazine put out by the same group dedicated to the photos...
Here's the one that always makes me laugh. This was probably about 12-13 years ago. Age 13-14...

Here's one just for the fun of it to show that you can fly those old tanks. I think that bike was in the 280lb range. 1986 TT350 air cooled 4 stroke. Yamahas version of the XR350 but with REALLY crappy suspension!!!

Hey !! Cool Bike... I had the XT350 (street legal version of the TT). It was my daily driver from 14yrs old till I got a truck at 17. That bike tried to kill me more than once at glamis but did pretty good with a paddle. : ) . oh and if only I had pics of when I crashed it on the street... that was my fault ... showin' off for the girlees = major road rash. LOL

Yeah, the XT was even more of a tank!!! I'm sure you can understand then how that shot is some decent air for that thing!!! That was actually a really good bike though. I destroyed it though. I did 140 mile ride and ran out of oil somewhere in the middle. When I finally topped it off it smoked worse then a 2 stroke. Had to top oil off with gas fill ups. Rebuilt it and during the reassembly I didn't get the air filter in right. Smoked it the very next ride again. My Dad was PISSED!!!! I learned my lesson. Then that's also the same bike that I landed on top of my Dad's rail with in the story earlier in this thread. Sooo, moral of the story is if you're looking at an '86 TT350, look at the frame rails under the engine and make sure the left one isn't flattened, you DON'T want my old bike!!!

Umm had the bike land on me when I was like 8y/o. Not strong enought o move it and laid there yelling for help for like 5 minutes. Then my parents roll up in the buggy and my Dad gets out laughing to help me!!!
Riding my friends bike back when I was 16 y/o. Was used to a XR type of four stroke delivery. Hopped on his 2 stroke, hit a jump and the powerband whipped the bike right out from under me. Lawn darted into the ground and tore up my left knee.
New years weekend 00/01 doing a 4th gear tapped double, came up a foot short. Rebounded, bounced sideways and plowed into the ground when the bike hit completely sideways. Knocked myself out, tore my left knee up and felt like I'd slammed my thumb in a door when I came back to reality.
About 13-14y/o cruisin through the small dunes up in Lucern/Johnson Valley me and a friend were chasing each other. Got separated. We were the only 2 out there. Jumped over a dune and there was my friend coming up the other side. Hit head on, helmet to helmet. Probably looked pretty classic from a side view. Knocked myself silly as [I am uneducated] that time!!!
and on and on and on!!! Why do I ride again?

OK Kritter, I know yours is better, I'm surprised it hasn't been shown yet!!!
Here's the aftermath of getting in a fight with a dead bush while only wearing shoes, shorts, and a helmet cruising 2nd gear to the canal to go swimming...
Warning large photo with some gross detail of a wound... The lowest part of the gash in the wound was pretty deep and took a couple hours to stop bleeding and pretty much made a mess of stuff!!!

well i started this thread think it wouldn't go anywhere but it did and thats cool. althought i never thought i would put my own crash in here but holloween weekend at ocotillo i eat it hard. went over the handle bars 3rd gear pinned and screwed both my thighs up. my friend gregg and i got an early start sat hit blow sand, then we were off to shell reef and we were running down main. we were going pretty fast throw the sand and there was this big bush in front of meso i just figured i would power up and jump it, i did it but there was a bolder just behind it and it had my name all over it . its been hard to walk on my right leg but i can get around. the funny thing is i have big brusses on my left leg and it does not hurt but my right leg is killing me and it looks fine, owell. no pictures of the crash but there was like 10 people how came to help me and they all said it was a pretty harsh crash. Damn bolders come out of now where http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Matt-
Thor has a set of knee guards that I love. They're not braces per se, but more for protection. A set ran me $60. The week off work due to a gash like that on my thigh, $1200. Asterisk makes a bitchin pair of braces too, the best I have had on/ seen. Ask Khris, he has a pair and swears by them.

I can't ride without them... Too scary, I've had them save my knees a couple times. $550 for the pair and worth every dime. I personally think riding without them is as stupid as riding without a helmet, sure you probably won't die but you might not ever walk normal again!!!
Here's a current thread on another webpage about them... (http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/758523/page/0/view/collapsed/sb/5/o/all/fpart/1#Post759816)

I picked up a pair of 661 knee-shin guards at the chaparral sale for $20, and I also got the 2x4 elbow/forearm guard for $10. they make some of the best safety gear, I haven't got to test them yet because my arm still needs about 2 months left of healing before I can ride again.

yeah, after that i got a good set of knee pads and i never ride without them now. its amazing how extreme pain makes you change youre habits.

Hannah Racing Products makes excellent knee pads. They provide excellent coverage and the inner liners
are removable so you can wash them. The straps are very wide so the don't cut into the backs of your legs.
