I literally spent ALL friggin day on this POS. I feel like I got nowhere. There isn't a single factory wire from the front tires, forward anymore. The only wires that will go that way are for the electric fan. Motor and trans are bolted together and ready to be installed. Changed the exhaust elbow to the new JY one without broken studs.

I need more wire. Anybody got a surplus of 10 gauge wire laying around? I need about 25-30 feet.

I covered the hole in the rear, under the new battery location, with the flashing.

michael_loomis

We need a shaft, or there is no point driving out to Houston.

Mike>>> port on the side of the regulator.... 1/8 NPT port for a fuel pressure gauge or pressure sensor pick up. Or it could be a vacuum port for boost reference.

Rule of thumb, Fuel sprays out= Gauge Does nothing = vacuum

michael_loomis
October 16th, 2009, 00:28
Duh lol

the 1/8th npt, already has a gauge in it.. The mini barb is for vacuum.

No, I'm going to hook it to the intake manifold like the stock one.

FlyHiFlyLo
October 16th, 2009, 01:09
NicK has one of those Epic Cams... I guess it will do 1hour per card. How do we or can we tap in to record in-car audio? Can we? It would be cool to have a rear facing cam.

FlyHiFlyLo

So how fast is this compared to KITT?

fishd00d
October 16th, 2009, 02:13
That car is faster by about 20% I would say. Its totally a cheater Miata but they get away with it because they have awesome themes and the WHOLE team dresses up to go along with it.

And we will have a forward facing chase cam that records the whole time. Also I have 2 cameras we can point where ever that will record 2 hours each. Taping into car radio is not happening.

dan200

I think I saw that fly left one on there? Should have left the other one on it also, maybe take it off the parts car. Its good to have a completely clean windshield on a road course so you can setup for corners.

Non turbo 1988 has the 3.90 gears and if it's an auto too it will have the right drive shaft so it bolts right in. If it's a 5 speed that is no big deal either cuz we can just install Dan's slip yoke on that shaft.

Motor/Trans in and mounted... driveshaft back in.. (gotta take apart the e brake and remove the sway bar..) sway bar polys installed. gotta finish hooking up the motor stuff. Hopefully finish wiring tomorrow.

Both sets of bolts really. I had to bolt the mount to the trans first, since it would have been impossible to tighten the t-bolts after the fact. That threw the mount to chassis holes all out of wack.

Fish mounted the rear rotors while I connected the motor.

Where are the boost controller instructions?

When I was setting it up I thought about boring bigger holes in the bottom of the x-member portion so you could get a socket up in there to tighten the trans to mount bolts.

New Rule, Fly dosent touch car within 3 weeks of a race.

Once the Loom is (ha ha) out the car will be very easy to modify and upgrade.

It was very restrictive.

michael_loomis

Clamps it came with are just like what I was using already.. The silicone hose is too this and will cut with the slightest tension from a worm drive clamp. If I don't tighten them down, the turbo will blow it off. Seen it happen.

Mike, we should get a list together and call in an order to the auto zone or whatever by the track so the parts we think we are gonna need will be in stock. this way if we need another headgasket kit like we thought we did at buttonwillow ( or whatever we may wanna have available at the store) it will be instock. this would be handy. give me a list and i will get it ordered. if we dont need it great, if we do it is there...

Head gaskets don't blow on these things.. We've super heated the motor all 3 races now, and not a single head gasket prob.

Hoses are the only thing I'd worry about.

did you come up with that all by yourself?:DI don't think i can get full credit for this idea... when we broke at thill and buttonwillow there was obviously a need to have done this. We had spare stuff but NOT the spare stuff we needed. While we sat with a blown up car in Buttonwillow frantically searching for auto parts on I Phones it became obvious we could have planned better for a scenario because every store said "I can have it for ya on Tuesday".

If things go wrong and one of these parts saves our race I will happily take credit for it...

Belts, pads, calipers, Master cyclinder, wheel bearings, struts, fuel pump, steering rack, tie rods, radiator.I just wrote this list down.

We have spare, struts and radiator and can pull the fuel pump from parts car if we have time. Belts/pads should be in stock everywhere.I just edited the list and took this stuff off. I am gonna get the pads ordered anyway. It is my recollection there were 2 kinds and the cheaper ones were the ones that wore out faster. Is that the case?

If there is anything specific i need to know before ordering stuff tell me... I will place the order tomorrow night...

"And speaking of the Penalty Box, we've decided to step up the cruelty a few notches for this race due to the largest-ever number of cars in LeMons history. That's right, 136 teams have been accepted, and that can mean only one thing: the entire course at MSR will be used this time, which should enable those overpowered, ill-handling Mustangs and Camaros to fly off the track like never before! Cool! Dile that thing in with the plugs and do some power breaking when doing it. After you run the tranny the the lube level cycle.

Last I heard they are baffeled on the converter deal...
Then they pulled a plug and it's bleached white... In the Danger Zone!
Some major fuel delivery issues right now and it can't make any low-end power without fuel.
They say it's building boost quicker.
I wonder if the injectors are tweaky or clogged or something...
At full throttle it should go into open loop.... So Injectors, Pump, Regulator, tank pick-up, filter, wiring has to be messed up somewhere.

fishd00d
October 19th, 2009, 01:15
The not having power is 100% due to the new stall speed which is 1800RPM. THAT is a joke! Yes its running lean but that would make MORE power for the most part lol. Nothing is messed up with wires or injectors its just running lean, We need the air/fuel ratio gauge so we can adjust the MAF sensor screw to richen it up. Hope it shows up tomorrow. The rest of the car is pretty done, few small things to do and some final tightening of bolts/zip tieing wires and it'll be good to go.

michael_loomis
October 19th, 2009, 01:16
It's nothing more than a twist of the mafs resistor once the afr gauge gets here. Just leaving the shop after a solid 12 hour day. Could easily spend 12 more, but f it, I'm tired.

Thanks Tony for driving all the way down to help out fish and I.

Yes Baffled.

The gauge isn't coming. You have to do it the old fashion way... With the spark plug. If you can fatten the engine up with a turn of the screw do it. Then read the plugs.

The place we ordered it from just sent me this...

Dear flyhiflylo7,

Hello,
I looked into this and at the time of your order, we were out of stock on that item. As mentioned in the item listing, because we also take orders over the telephone and our own online store, quantity in our eBay listings is not accurate with our actual inventory. Feel free to call for inventory status at any time.

We expect to have them back in stock very soon and as soon as they come in, your shipment will go out to you and you should receive an e-mail notification. I apologize if this causes you any inconvenience for your race. Thanks, let us know if you have any other questions!

I talked to AUTO zone today. Lots of the stuff we wanted to have on hand needed to be paid for in full before they ordered it. Some stuff they have in their ware house and some is at their vendors.

Stuff that is in the Autozon ware house can be at the store on friday it is ordered by 4pm on thursday.

here is how it breaks down...

Belts. they have the alt in stock but the P/S would have to be ordered...
pads. these are instock and on hold.
Calipers. can only get from vendor... (core charge applies to these)
Master cylinder... is probably at their warehouse. not positive...
wheelbearings in stock...
steering rack...is probably at their warehouse. not positive...
tierods 3 out of four of them at warehouse....

autozones # is (979) 848 1256....

Seriously Fish I think the loss to the Donkeys has you all f-d up! hahaha

My vote would be to locate a used driveshaft in Houston and put the new u joints in that one (unless it already has okay joints of course). That way if things go bad you still have the one you have now.. And no pulling driveshafts unless it is to put a better one in.
