Under body protection

Any one have any thoughts on the best materials and construction for a skid plate.
Ideally not to heavy as my vehicle weighs 1200kg complete and weight is an issue.

3/8" UHMW......... Like a giant frickin tobogan.........

Thanks Partybarge, I use a piece of UHMW at the front of the racer, you have now confirmed I should be using this throughout the entire underside. Thanks. I'm off to find a supplier!
