any thoughts on a sxs w/ a solid rear axel like from small car or truck w/ 3-4 link? was thinking about putting a street bike engine mounted sideways w/ drive shaft mounted to countershaft. has anybody done this? how did it work?

Rock crawling buggies do this all the time, if you want to count a tube chassis with two people sitting "side by side" a SxS :D

Cody Currie built a Rhino-Esc buggy with a shaft driven motorcycle engine in it and a Currie 8" rearend. The thing books it and works really well. He finally finished it near the end of last year.

I thought about doing this like my dwarf car. We use Toyota 8 and 10 bolt car rear ends. Could you imagine ripping around with a GSXR 1000.

too much weight to add a solid rear end.
check out Weller Racing for R1 setups and still have independant rear arms. with stock rear diff. many are doing this for play and/or a new SDR1 rhino race class for next season. they have most everything needed, even the motor mount plate.
next choice would be Tranzworks modified type one shortened vw transaxle with a coupling directly off the motor and still have independant rear arms and reverse.

I have seen some of these independent options. I was thinking about the solid axel (toyota or samuri) for the low cost factor. It seems w/ the horse power that a 1000cc street bike motor is putting out it would haul it just fine. any other info on the currie buggy or something like it? thanks

still too much weight and you would have to cut the back up pretty bad so the housing clears the frame, plus why would you not want indepndent rear suspension
there is a guy on here "stetler" that did sancar style trailing arms and a rpm or jeffco gear box for his r1. he has a thread on it I beleive with pics. 18+ inches of travel I beleive
even did right hand drive to be different. great work

Yeah i saw his. very cool. but again it is huge dollars to buy those rear end kits. I was just thinking it would be a lot cheaper to go the other way and it would work the same as a race truck w/ 4 link. Just an idea and wanted some input from people that have done some sxs mods.
