Heres the deal, we're running k&n with foam and outerwears.. Now @ vegas to reno last year, they plugged in 150 miles or so, collapsing and sanding the motor... We want to put a ump set up on it.. So whats involved? 3" or 4" outlet?? What about linkage?? Any input would be great.. Need to have it dialed before parker..

Can't think of any good reason not to go with the 4" unless you have space/routing problems.
I'm guessing you're concerned about the linkage because installing UMP plenums would do away with the K&N filter base that the linkage bolts to?
This is probably the reason you don't seem to see many examples of this setup.
You'll probably have to make a custom (thin) plate to mount your linkage and sandwich it between the carburetor and the aluminum plenum.
Good luck, let us know how it turns out!

Why not get some turbo housing tops for the carbs, then route the open ends to the filter? Just a thought I had while I'm here in Vegas.

Reason i mention the 3" is we already have one.. Now i could cut the 3" in & outlets off, and change them to 4".. Just wondering if the 3" would be enough flow??

Let the dyno tell you as every motor is different. When we had our 10 with a 1915/single carb with extensive porting the 4" gained approx 2 HP over the 3". Our friend showed an almost 5HP gain on a 1776 (SS 12 car motor) with a long tube airbox from the "red/blk" motor builder with a 3" outlet which was better on his motor than a 4". IMO I'd always prefer a paper element over an oiled guaze. Paper filters better from what we've seen, the gauze breathes better at first but lets more junk in then filters better when it gets dirty but clogs faster...

Leave it 3"......... Then add a second one........ UMP's are the best filter out there, they just don't flow all that well. The turbo box's for the carbs work OK for forced induction, but they are to small volume wise for NA use. UMP sells box's for most carbs......

We only have room for one canister.. So sounds like the 4" is the way to go..

I have a dual carb type IV and the SAME thing happened at the 2008 V2R. I had K&N's with foam outers. I lost my motor from it. The guy at UMP sent me a picture via e-mail and we basically followed that. 3" going together into one Y and then 4" after that to the single canister I mounted right above my transaxle. I routed the inlet so it pulls air from right between the driver's head and the co-drivers. Actually a little back from that. It works great. This year's V2R it performed great. I can't remember the guy's name, but I ended up meeting him in person at this year's V2R and he's real cool. Very helpful. Just go to their website and you can take it from there. I wish I would have went with UMP from the start, too.

Hardesty's 10 car ran duals with ump filter. I built a custom aluminum "y" for it in 4". Worked well for them.

thats a pretty sexy setup.... Where did you get the bases that the linkage hooks to??
