Yes, same as his Monster Hummer. He mastered that lever in his Super 1600 days.

That Elite looks like John Kaisers car, so yes there could be RG/Johnny Kaiser influence.

That car build was launched in 2003... It has had several tweeks since. But the layout, main geometery and sheetmetal has pretty much stayed the same.

Thanks Fly for posting that video. I sure miss not being down there. Oh well, I'll console myself tomorrow morning with a 12-bore SXS while chasing pheasants.

I was thinking the same thing. It wasn't long ago that a photographer posted a photo of a truck jumping at the MORE race and the guy was just about lynched. Whether RG needs a helmet or not, there was 3 other people in the car.

fly, didnt he have a sand car first with all the same fickle fackle about it? i remember him parking his truck at glamis for a year or 2 and him playing in a dark dark gray rail he had built? the pre-runner looks very similar just more heavy duty and with a windshield.

I'm not defending the guy by any means, let's just say the rope and pitchforks came out because of helmets and the fact that the race was going on.
Cool video, but cooler with helmets. EOS

I think they are the same car. The first photo is at a bad angle to see it correctly. The "V" (or triangle that you called it) you are seeing in what looks like the windshield, is the "B" pilar on the drivers side...

Cool video...cool to see the car still running and getting used. The chassis was built by a guy named timmy (can't remember his last name) at robby's, Tim left robby's after the chassis was built and myself, arron kirkendol, and a couple of other guys finished the car debuting it at the phoenix nascar race in 2003, and then robby took it on its first prerunn of baja for the '03 baja 1k just after that. No major issues on first pre run if memory serves, I think the shift linkage came loose maybe. I talked to robby and some of his guys a couple of years ago and they said they had folded the suspension a couple of times and rebuilt it stronger since, but the majority of the car had held up pretty good.
We used to call it "The Hermaphrodite" around the shop...cause so much was cut off and then redone in its life...and that was just when it was being built. It was fun project to be apart of, and I learned a lot in the process. I need to dig out my old computer and see if I can find the pics I took during the build process.

cool info on the car. its fun to hear the history on cars like this.
It looks like a fun, simple, fast and durable car.
I guess RG folding the suspension shouldn't be much of a surprise though.

I remember seeing it parked in the driver area by his motorcoach... I just kept walking back and forth, and all I could mumble is "its just not fair"... lic plates and all...
I didnt give a crap about the race or any other NASCAR driver at that point... I just wanted to be RG... and personally, I think every other cup driver did too when they saw the car...
