What has that to do with Mexico?? Living 12 years in San Diego (no "bad" neighborhoods) I had 3 cars/trucks stolen and 2 broken in. Living almost 10 years in BCS I had 1 battery stolen, 1 tank full of gasoline siphoned empty and got defrauded out of a few thousand $US ( not by a Mexican!) I see you live in 5 cities. Two weeks ago I had a couple freinds staying in Pismo. They came to ride Motocross not the dunes. They stayed at a freinds moble home accross from Pismo Coast Village, they awoke to the sound of somone steeling their bikes out of the back of their truck. Maybe people shouldnt bring their toys to Pismo anymore. This is the first 1000 ive missed since 1999 and the only thing ive lost is alot of 1 dollar bills (my own stimulas package) and a small generator. You just have to watch your stuff so it doesnt walk away.

Well I'm not sure what you're getting at, but both of my parents are from Mexico, I have tons of family and Mexico, I love the country, love races in Baja, etc., etc. But you know what? I still don't feel good about leaving ANY vehicle unattended there. The same goes for a lot of places in the U.S.
My point was that we all know this is going to happen. Personally, I think it's generally pretty easy to prevent.

Or maybe they should be a little smarter about how and where they store their bikes... in ANY city. The five-cities area has a super-low crime rate but I ain't leavin' my stuff out for opportunistic thieves to take. I consider very few areas safe enough to just leave stuff out and hope no one will take them. Thieves are everywhere and can ruin your day in a hurry. The trick is to be slightly smarter than them.
Sorry to detract from the thread, everyone. I do hope the truck is found and just so it's clear, I'm not saying anyone was asking for this in any way. Let's move on and concentrate on finding this truck.

The truck has been paid off for 3 years, so its not really a scammy thing, he did have mexican insurance but nothing crazy, trust me the last thing he wanted was to lose that truck.

The sad truth is these trucks will prob never be found. Theft provention is king. If you are going to leave your vehicle unattended especially away from home two simple things can keep it yours. #1 battery disconnect (perferable locking boat style easly installed on any vehicle) and #2 some type of wheel lock like a club (I know these are cheesy but remeber you are only looking to keep thiefs moving to a easyer target). Sorry to jack the thread but hope fully my ideas help someone keep their ride home and save that bottle of advil for the back ache.

That is pretty sweet, kind of an upgraded unit of what they used to install at the dealers 5-10 years ago. I will be looking into that.

Sorry for all that lost equipment.
Pretty basic to fix the stolen truck issue.
Hidden kill switches: one for the starter. One for the fuel pump.
The starter relay will screw up the amatuer kids working inside the cab (they have to jump the relay manually under the hood), and no fuel pressure or flow would take awhile to troubleshoot if the splice point is hidden cleanly.
Maybe 40 bucks to with the proper parts/quality toggles.
We spend tons of money and time on lights/radios/gps/etc, yet this should be done first even here in the states.

If they want it, they will get it.
Guy goes go to Pic N Save in El Cajon over lunch. Club, hidden kill switch, alarrm, & cop sitting a couple of rows away eating donuts or something.
Guy comes back out, truck gone, cop still sitting there eating donuts. Granted this was about 10 years ago but the circumstances didnt deter the car thief, if they want it bad enough, they'll get it.
All we can do is buy insurance, throw up road blocks and hope they move to an easier target. That Ravelco device looks pretty cool, could just open the hood and remove the ECU relay though, much cheaper.
Sux he lost his truck though, that rig is tough to replace.

about 5 maybe 6 years ago at the 1000 my crew and I went into a place to eat. It was getting dark so I ran back to the car to put my glasses in my truck. Walking away I hear some noise and see the white ford with 3 hondas in the back hauling ass away! (not my truck, the one I parked behind) I could see the guys who walked in before us and got 1 of them and went to try to find his stuff. It was horrible, these guys were from back east and 1 of the bikes was their race bike XR650. Never found anything and the cops were helpless. Since then I feel a little better this year. Also my buddies used to give me crap because I put a big chain and master lock through my steering wheel through the seat frame.
2 years ago it was a cold ride home with the drivers window busted out but I believe that big ugly chain is why I had my 2500 GMC Duramax to drive home in.
I still use the same chain....:D

The DA high tech security consist of:
1. Staying IN town and parking in a secured lot.
2. We buy chains and combination locks and lock our trucks together or run the chains through the wheels
3. Use an old fashioned club on the steering wheel
At race time there is only like 2000 to 3000 F-350's down there. If yours has some highly visible deterrent on it it is likely that they will move on to an easier one to get...........
Nothing is for sure. Get insurance and be prepared to lose whatever you take down there.
It really sucks that a few criminals ruin things for us and the hard working people of Mexico who make a living off of serving us and other tourist.
I sometimes day dream about leaving a bling bling truck somewhere and sitting across the street with a high powered rifle with a silencer and a scope...........
Then the little voice in my head reminds me that I'm supposed to live my life in Jesus' footsteps..............But man oh man wouldn't that put an end to the problem.........
I am a sick individual without God in my life............

How about getting an IRC tracker or some other type for your chase vehicle. Then drive over to the house and beat the F IN crap out of the thieves.
1-My trucks is gone someone must of stolen it “OH NO” they took the ice chest with all the beer also. Oh Sh#T
2-Switch on the computer somewhere
3- Oh there it is just off HWY 1 at LON. LAT. @ 0 MPH
4-Get a cop.
5-Go to truck or what’s left of the truck.
At least it would be quick and not give them much time to start taking it apart and no more Easter Egg hunt.

If you go the the look out! section here in RDC you will find a lot of stolen stuff like sandrails, prerunners, shocks, motorcycles, gear, etc taken from your own backyards, garage, or races in USA...... if you don't take care of your belongings crooks will take them, regardless of the place, cause they are everywhere. Most of the time it's our own fault for not taking extra caution.

November 23rd, 2009, 01:05
A very simple and inexpensive security device to prevent a thief from driving away with your vehicle is to install an interrupt switch in the wires going to your brake switch. On an automatic transmission, there is a safety switch (solenoid) that prevents the gear position selector from moving out of the PARK position unless the brake pedal is depressed. Disabling the brake switch will disable this function on almost all vehicles. So, if a thief is able to override the ignition switch and the anti-theft alarm system, it is unlikely he will consider is a switch preventing the the gear selector from being able to move out of the PARK position. He will more than likely consider the vehicle to be broke, or do difficult to steel at this point.

After the race were were sitting at broncos havin some awesome steak and trading stories when we hear about a chase truck that was stolen. Heres the worst part. The truck was seen moments later driving away by other chasers from its team. Not yet aware it was stolen the crew actually waved good bye to the thieves.

My issue was that you thought the earlier post putting the responsibility on the victims, beyond borders, was "well said."
I've never been robbed in Mexico, only in AZ. I guess it was my fault for working long enough to have some stuff worth stealing?

OK, I'll never blame the victim neither the country, I should be able to let my "toys" in the street and not get robbed, but that's were we are getting on these days, nothing is safe anymore.

I chain my f-350 to what ever may be sitting in my garage at the time(race car pre runner) every single night. People may laugh but it is payed for, I have the pink and insurence wont replace it so the thief had better have a giant set of bolt cutters and be able to open my garage door if they want to get at the lock. By that time they are going to be either dead or looking down the barrel of a 12 gauge. I take the chain to all the races I go to and run it threw all the wheels and the springs. Overkill?? Maybe but they arnt leaving very easy with it. I had a truck stolen before in the 80s, it sucked, and I feel for anybody no mater how wealthy they are that gets ripped off by some vulture. Oh about my stolen truck, it was involved 3 months later in the largest cocain bust in the 80s at the border. They allowed me to see it LOL the thing was opened up like with a can opener. They had filled every single cavity that truck had as well as the fuel tanks, wheels even the engine oil pan as well as a bunch of compartments built into it under the bed. The spare tire was full the doors had all the stuff that made the windows work removed and were full. It layed at the impound yard like a bomb had blown it up. Chains, big ones seam to work

I stupidly left my Sweet F-350 Crew in Rosarito a couple years back. They broke the door lock, then the ignition switch easy. They then took it and stripped all the cool stuff, radios, lights, shocks, mounts , etc. Then they tinted the glass in the rear and fabbed a fake rear seat in the rear and tried to smuggle in 5 people in that. Busted by INS at the border, (who declined to arrest the driver who claimed he was paid to drive across....) I got it back a month later, 3 days before I was to be paid by insurance; (I had U.S. and Mexican insurance) Even after 30 years of travel in Baja I forgot the Maxim: Don't take your eyes off your stuff until you get past Maneadero.....But my baby is still cruising to Baja with new radio and Kings and stuff, and I will be more careful. I wish I had not given them the opportunity. They won't steal anything you're sitting in.
