I don't see a lot of mid engine buggies but I am wondering if it is a good or bad idea to mount the fuel cell in the back far as possible from the occupants or behind the seats right next to you. Just wanting to hear some opinions on this.
This is obviously only a option on a mid engine buggy. I see trucks with the cell all the way out back pretty often but I am wondering from a safety standpoint mostly.

Most trucks have them mounted in the rear to help with the weight bias. Downside is it changes a lot from full to empty. Mounting as close to the CG as possible is the best to keep consistent handling.

Totally agree with you from the handling aspect Brian. I am more curious to hear peoples opinions from a safety standpoint.

Mid mounted cells are less likely to get hit. I've had rear mounted cells in trucks get nailed before.

This is where high quality components and lots of attention to detail should be used. Beyond that, it needs to be remembered that the whole car is a package and a problem in one area can compromise another. If the overall quality and design are up to standards, a mid-mounted cell is no more precarious than other things like the chassis, steering, plumbing, cage, etc.
