on a mini truck like a ford ranger or toyota p/u is a chromoly needed for a roll cage or is will dom be sufficient i would imagine that the wall would have to be kinda thick for it to be strong.

You don't need to use 4130. A couple of well though out, and well braced, ~.120" wall x ~1.75" diameter mild steel full roll bars will stand up to a lot of crunch.

Agreed with fabricator. DOM is fine.

Yeah, DOM is fine. Mkae sure you use the right size / thickness tubing and you will be fine....assuming the person welding it is good.
