It's "Christmas" not "X-mas".
I am sure the Jihadists that were supposed to be on the Air France flight prefer 'X-mas".

You said it. It's like everyone saying happy holidays instead of Merry Christmas. It takes the real meaning away from Christmas and turns it into a day off from work. The Capitol Hill Christmas tree has become the Congressional Holiday Tree so that no one will be "offended." At least George W. still calls the White House tree, a Christmas tree.

Well, Klausmeister, I am not much of a religious guy but, I am keenly aware that because I am not an Islamo-nazi, I am marked for conversion or extermination per the Koran, hence my thoughts back to my family roots of Christianity and also a sincere relation to my Jewish friends whom partially represent our only sincere friends (those in Israel) on the battlefield againt Terrorism at this time.
So "X-mas" is out and "Christmas" is in and "Happy Hanukkah" too.
Presents? Gott'em. They all walk and talk, and I am present to them too.

Der kleezay mouse is funny. Christmas getting commercial? Nah, that'll never happen. http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Christmas for some ain't Christmas for all. I just wish there was an easier way of figuring out who to say "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Hanukkah" to. I think we need a color coded system. If you are a Christmas person you should have to wear some red and green. If you are going the Hanukkah route maybe some gold and black. I dunno - in NYC they say happy everything and that's just too generic. I've got Persian and Jewish relatives in my family and they are always there for the family Christmas party and everyone tells them MERRY CHRISTMAS when they arrive...
To quote a movie... "God bless the USA and no place else!"

Jeff- they could always have a tatoo put on their foreheads to designate what religion (if any) they practice...
What really pisses me off is the ones who get offended if you don't give them the proper greeting for their religion. If they want to look at history, many people have been killed because of the religion they practice and would not tolerate the religious beliefs of others. I say THEY should be thankful the person is simply offering good cheer and friendship at this time of year rather than trying to exterminate the followers of a different religion. Allow them to practice the good things that come with their faith rather than bittering their respect for you your religion. Allow someone to give you cheer without pissing on their religious trait of offering it.

Hmm.. tats... good idea. One little green dot right next to the red one... hmm...
Eventually we will probably have some microchip implant that lets us know their name, town of birth, favorite color, and hopefully, the holidays they practice.

Just want to understand why you don't like X-mas being used. The "X" comes from the Greek word Xristos meaning Christ. We just shortened it up. It has nothing to do with terrorists from what I understand. I had just read about how X-mas came about coincidentaly. It's also the same length as SALE so it work good for advertising, I can see why this would upset some people.

I think the offense comes from the societal shift from the celebration of Christ's birth to a holiday that represents mere gift giving with Santa Clause as the icon. The X-mas just makes it even easier to forget what the true meaning of it is. Plus, with the accademes p.c. movement in full force, Christmas is fast turning into "The Dec. 25th Holiday." You might think that's a joke, but in many corporate calendars, that is a reality.
P.S. I didn't know that the x stood for Xristos, that at least gives some good to X-mas.
