i just got the feb 04 issue of petersen's 4wheel. every year they take a break from mud and show trucks to cover the CORR races at crandon. this year they featured a 3 page pullout poster of Carls hot rod and had a short interview with him printed up. they did an excellent job on the whole write up and as usual carl was a great spokesman for our sport. check it out when you can and thanks to petersen's for the great write up!

So while we are on the subject of CORR and what not, what is the difference between sporty 2 and Pro 2? And what race is the closest to So Cal?

actually, there are very few differences between pro-2 and sporty2. last year they legalized tube framed trucks in sporty 2 including the pro-2 standardized chassis like mine. previous years required a production frame from front to rear axle center lines.
the biggest difference is that sporty2 requires an unported iron head and pro-2 is basically unlimited head design. all other engine specs are the same. really the only other difference is tire size, sporty 2 is limited to 33" DOT tires on 15" wheels where pro-2 is running the BFG projects on 17" wheels. this also makes a small difference in braking since the 17" wheel will fit a bigger rotor.
the rule changes were designed to make sporty 2 a nice stepping stone to get to pro-2. now you can develop your chassis in sporty 2 and after you've got it working good go up to the bigger tires and engine and run pro-2.

the closest race to southern cal?? that would be topeka, kansas this year, still not close. i would recommend fall crandon, it's worth a weeks vacation no matter where you're coming from. the racing action on that weekend just can't be beat. besides being close to the end of the season for points battles crandon adds lots of extra events including fireworks, a live band, other forms of racing, and the hilight of the weekend is the borg warner shootout. there is simply nothing that compares to the 24 fastest pro-2, pro-4, and sporty2 trucks on the track at the same time! with the bigger purse the guys that can win go for broke so the racing is always incredible.

Hey Hoeker,

When is the race in Topeka, Kansas. Living in Colorado, that isn't all that far. Just a boring drive!

topeka is july 10, 11. its a saturday night and sunday show, this is going to be a very interesting event for us since we will be racing under the lights for the first time. we've raced at topeka before but this will be a different track. it sounds like it will be in front of the grand stands for their 1/2 mile dirt oval and we will race on the track, in the infield and in the back field similar to how we race at antigo.
hope to see you there!
