Out of curiosity, what do the masses think about having/creating a "Prerunner" class for SCORE and BITD? I know that there probably are way too many classes out there now but if you consider how many old class eights are out there, old race trucks turned into chase/prerunners and all the individuals that have prerunners that are race legal but not necessarily competive or legal for its respective class. I know that MDR has a good turnout but do like to run other races too, so what do you guys think. Meet safety, be street legal with full metal cab and working doors, the rest open for now-any ideas, input?

They do have a class......... Its called 'Sportsman Truck'. Entry is a lot less than 'Pro' classes also.

Yeah thats true but one of the problems with running sportsman is the fact that you are not eligible(at least in the past) for any contingency money. I'm just curious if there are enough interested people to have/create a "door slammer" class-if not, no problem. Just hate having a truck that is too modified to run in any class but trophy and its not competive there....

SCORE's sportsman classes are a joke. It was much better when they had sportsman by class, there were a lot more entries. And $800 sportsman with obviously zero payback? It's a joke.

It is sportsman for a reason. The idea is not to have folks who race sportsman for the rest of their racing careers, but to race it as a stepping stone into the "Pro" classes. If you have any intention of racing, you should try to build up whatever you are building to be class legal for something. Sure, you ride may be really cool on the street with all those hizoot parts, but now you are left with a ride legal in only the HIZOOT TT class. As for doo slammers, there are plenty, 7s, Stone stock, 5-1600, and the Onces, class 11. SCORE needs less classes, not more, and having one sportsman class for each is a wise choice if the intention is to build the pro classes. They don't want someone running sportsman forever, they wantthem moving up after some water testing.
Sounds like you want to race against trucks evenly matched, but not to any of the existing class rules...Hindsight is foresight in reverse?

I can understand why you ask since I think it's neat to race something that you drive on
the street. But why not just race your prerunner in class 8, 7 or sportsman? If it can't
hang in 8 or 7 then it won't hang when a big buck prerunner shows up either.
No need for yet another class. JMHO.

Run it in MDR 1450 and see where you stand...before you go trying to make other classes. BITD has done a prerunner class...it is mostly big teams entering their prerunners to provide support to the race vehicle.

Just my two cents, but SCORE Sportsman is what you make of it. For Baja Bros. it's our chance to race a couple times a year, have tons of fun, test ourselves, and still not get in the way of the more serious all-out racers who compete in our offical "pro" class, 1/2 1600. Sportsman Class fits us. Sal shakes our hand when we start just like everybody else, we pass people in faster "pro" vehicles, we get nerfed occasionally, we get a trophy if we do well, we just get no prize money and very little contingency bucks. But we don't pay the full price to enter either. It seems like an ideal (that is, much neglected) breeding ground for a SCORE legal prerunner class. Right now, Sportsman is kind of a goofy squad, filled with an odd assortment of buggies and trucks that don't fit into any class, but can you imagive a dozen quality prerunners going fender to fender, harassing the Class 3's, giving the Stock Trucks something to worry about, matching times with 7s trucks and better? Contingency Sponsors aren't blind, preruners are big biz and contingency bucks would soon follow. To my mind, prerunners are what 7s was in the beginning. Maybe you could get Sal to lower the entry fee even more if the class was exciting and able to draw a big entry. Like someone else said, it's a great starting place for the big name desert racers of the future.

OK I'll give a penny or two on this one .....SCORE sportsman ..toss it if you are not ready to do ''big'' time OFFROAD racing then take it to MDR, MORE or whatever, when you are ready for SCORE then pick a class and go 4 it......now I'm not nocking on the local race guys I 'm just saying if you feel that YOU are not ready to get nerfed by the Herbst then just go local and be the best you can be....Hell that's all I could do b4 the $ ran out ....and I found that when the Baldwins, Rendezeder(sp? sorry Carl) Nick Baldwin, and Jerry Welchel and a host of others came local and did some "cherry picking'' I could run with them and sometime in front of them, that's when I knew I was goodnuff for BIG TIME just wish I would have stayed in just a little longer.....MY BAD......

Actually have run the darned thing in Trophy, just sorta like taking a slingshot to a gun fight-never said I was real bright. I would make the run over to a MDR race, sound like a lot of fun but hey, I actually like most of SCORE's courses, thought I could drum up some fellow racers that have spent way to much money on a single function vehicle-guess it's time to run the "3" truck again or at least finish out the major overdue "TT". Oh, by the way, Chris, always good to see you make the Baja runs with street legal stuff, havin a blast on a budget....
