I didn't see the truck in the link listed but I could have missed it. The truck belongs to John Dalair from Atascadero CA. it's a totally bad class 8. If there was ever a good truck to copy this one would be right up there with the old Enduro class 8.

BTW I don't remember the first owners/builders name but this guy built the truck over a period of like 10 years. It's the most detailed and finished truck there is. This guy was low in funds so he even made his own fully contoured dzus plates to hold the body on.

Mind boggling fab work! Now he preps the truck for John.

I thought that I had heard somewhere that he used a rear steer configuration, but cant seem to find any pics of it.

In 2 of the desertrides pics (one of each spindle) you can tell it is rear steer. These pics don't show the steering setup well - you can just see there is no steering attachment on the front of the spindle I haven't seen any pics other than these of the setup though.

Here is a pic I took at last years Parker race of the rear steer. Its just like the old kingpin i beam rear steer.

I thought I heard Sandy Cone had a hand in building that truck, or was it another 8 truck?

Sandy has done a lot of machine work on the truck. But I dont think he phiscally works on it. I know its got one of his big 46 spline 10" rear end, hubs, and snounts. Plus alot of other trick stuff. Sandy and John are neibors and good freinds.

The only thing that I would not copy on that truck is the steering. Its the best fab work there is, but its got some bad geometry working against it. The left front has got to be getting alot of bump steer.

Other wise its bad to the bone!

The rear steeris one of the things I was wondering about. I figured thats what it was, but wanted to see how it was setup. Anyone have an overall pi of the truck. If the front has that much work in it I would love to see the entire thing.
Thanks for the responses.

My question w/ rear steer is what are the experts opinions on this? When landing (front tires coming off the groud and back down) the force on the front of the tires would pre pressing them outwards, and therefore the rear inwards. In a front steer setup this puts the tie rods in tension meaning they will tear apart and break in an extreme load. With a rear steer setp the tie rods, etc. would be in a compression load and would be more likely to bend. Is it better to have the thing set up to bend and possible go un-noticed, or break all together? I would assume in a race type scenario that you'd want to keep the truck running, and it would be looked at/torn down after the race anyways so bending is ok.
I'm not so sure on a streetable, non-race truck though which is why I am pretty sure I will be going front steer on my truck. Any thoughts?

Got a chance to see this truck first hand in Parker, they came through pit 1 with some major damage to the drivers side suspension, looked like they had busted a weld in the I-beam between the coilover and bypass mounts. They used our mig welder along with the stick welder that the guys from Kyle Taylors crew had. The truck overall looked like a nice setup, the rear bump stops are mounted pretty uniquely if you get a chance to see a picture of them.
Also had a busted weld on the drivers side knuckle that came from the damage that occured to the beam.
Its a sweet truck, I think they were 2nd behind LeDuc.

The truck is John Dallaries Class 8 race truck. I had the chance to be with his race team at this years Parker race. Mike Normile is the fabricator. Sandy Cone (Cone Industries)built the rear end and hubs etc. We all live in the same area and I do machining for Sandy at my work.
