Alan Pflueger - Today we were fueling up at the PEMEX and he rolls up and starts pumping his own gas... he looked over at the truck we were in and pointed out that we had a nail in the tire. He didn't know if we were smart or dumb so he told us just to leave it in there and to keep an eye on it. (It was actually a screw in the tread and it wasn't leaking) Attention to detail? Yep, he's got it. Concern for others? Yep. A really nice guy that just also happens to be a "rich and famous" TT driver? Yep. - Thank you.
Robby Gordon - Always willing to take the time to talk with someone. A total stranger can walk up to Robby and carry on a conversation. And he gets HOUNDED in Mexico and even on a bad day he's got that Robby smile. Zoo Road on Saturday - his truck bucking up in the air from a rough landing, going toward the crowd, RG stabbed the gas and corrected like it was just any other bump in the road. Potential to wipe out an entire crowd? Yes - but Robby can somehow pull that craziness off. Nice guy - yep. Maniac behind the wheel with the talent to recover from the seemingly impossible? Yep. Living a dream? For sure. - Thank you.
Sal Fish - Love him or hate him the guy has a tough job and he busts his a55 to put on a great event for our enjoyment. This sport is about enjoyment right? In the past I've had some no bueno things to say about SCORE but Sal does the impossible every time a race is run. He always makes the rounds and can be found BS'ing with the racers and crew. Got a problem? Corner the guy and he will do his best to answer questions. That guy gets 48 hours worth of work done in a 24 hour day and it's a lot of hands on work too. If you think you can do what Sal does you are wrong. - Thank you.
Bob "Weatherman" Steinberger - He's not super famous or too well known with the younger crowd... if you are new to the sport you owe it to yourself to understand what this guys does on race day. He's the father of Scott "PCI TT #7" Steinberger too... When Weatherman confirmed #7 was out two miles before the finish line with a blown transmission (before the actual cause was known) he wasn't the Weatherman right then - he was just a Dad and Scott was his Son. Even after listening to Bob for so many years it never gets dull or boring. Bob might not have his own line of fancy racing wheels and he might not get hounded by kids for steekers or an autograph... but he might just be the guy that saves your life when stuff gets tough on race day. I sure hope D2G is able to show people (even just a glimpse) of what Bob does for SCORE and the racers/chasers. He needs an honorary "Santo Weatherman" title. Listening to the "Weatherman" on the radio can give you the chills. - Thank you.
These are ordinary people that do extraordinary things for our enjoyment. Thank you for another great weekend in the Dez.
Aloha
