I bought 4 Rallye 4000 HID's and mounted them on my buggy, and now three of them dont work. I had them bolted to the tabs and then tacked the tabs to the car and unbolted them. The wires from the ballast where hanging, not connected to the car. I also had the ground well connected and close to the lights. I used the ballast from the one that still works on the other bulbs and they work. All that happens with the bad ballasts is I get a small spark for an instant when i hook them to a battery. I have come to the conclusion that tacking the tabs on some how fried the ballasts. Has anyone heard of this before and know how I can fix these things. I have had to buy one before and they are like $160, I dont want to have to buy three. Thanx

Did you disconnect the negative battery terminal before you tacked the lights? If you didn't, this could have cause a short circuit and since i think the lights are self grounding, that could have been possible and you just had a better connection on the light that went bad than the others

Theres no battery in the car. It was a light bar attached to the frame. Both wires two the three lights where hanging in the air. I'm sure it is the ballast, but why is beyond me.

Were the ballast boxes bolted to the light bar when you welded on the light bar? Sending a strong current through the ballast may have fried the output stage.

The ballast boxes where hanging as well. Is there a place other than Hella that can look at them? Hella's shop rate w/ shipping excedes the cost of new boxes

You might want to give Jeff Quinn a call. You might have some bad ballasts from Hella. Maybe he might be able to swing something for you.

You might wanna check on ebay, they usually have some really good prices on new ballasts. You prob. just have a bad ballast, they do go bad for no reason sometimes, it's happened to me on my truck before, not uncommon.

I have had a few bad ballast come thru, Take them back to who ever you bought them from (Shoulda been me) and have them warranty them for you.
