OK, we were going to build a Class 10 car for next season. Started adding up money and for the same price i can build a Class 1 car. Kept going with budgets and for the same price i can buy / build a Pro Truck. Payoff seems to be better in the Pro Truck series and HUGE advertisment in that event.
I've talked and met with Ivan, looked at the truck in a ton of detail, talked with other racers in the Protruck series and i think i'm ready to make m decision
Anyone heard any downside to racing Protruck? Anything Bad? Everyone seems to really enjoy it. I like the spec truck idea...... HELP!

There are a couple TT drivers that came from driving Pro Trucks and are doing great. The only bad thing I can think of is that they are on their 3rd tire manufacuter and every time they change brands you are stuck buying all new stuff if it is tires shocks or what ever, but I think you would get that with any spec class. There are several Pro Truck teams or people who had pro trucks on this forum so hopefully some of them can reply to you and shed some light on their experiences. Class 1 seems to have the highest average entries so you allways have lots of compition. Good luck in what ever class you choose they are all lots of fun! http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Although its not a BFG tire, Yokohoma seems to have put together a great deal for the protruck guys with big prize money, some new rims and tires to test. Its not like the goodyear deal the owners have plenty of time to test before the tire is mandatory. I think the protruck class is an awesome class with incredibly talented racers fighting it out ever single race and it always comes down to minutes at the end between the top 5 places or so and they have an awesome finishing rate.

The Protruck class is top notch. Protruck has parts on the shelf and the trucks retain high value because they are guaranteed to not go out of date with the changing technologies. A 6-year-old class one or ten would not be as competitive as a new Jimco, but Rick Johnson of RJR racing is winning races with Protruck #1. Also Ivan is the perfect offroad PR guy with his many championships Protruck is sure to be on top. The trucks are easy to prep and have the right amount of power to go fast, but not tear up parts to bad. My Protruck racing cost 1/3 of what I spend racing old #7 and I know class 1 costs more than a Protruck. Motor and Transmission is where you save money on the Protruck class. Motors will go half the season and the transmissions are cheap to go through every race. The benefits of racing a Protruck more than outweigh the fact that you have to run a certain manufacturers part. Good luck!

well i cant speak from direct experience but i think about it alot and if i had the budget i would get into a pro truck my self before a trophy of class 1. because of purses$$$,yearend championship money$$$,competitivness of the class, i beleive they run 92 octane fuel little less expensive, parts readilly available, reliability of motor and chassis combination, yet still a really fast truck. you can buy complete truck and part packages for 75-100k. jeff dickersons truck is for sale in the classifieds on this site. no build time and testing to deal with just go racing. good luck with your purchase!!

PERFECT! Thanks so much for your responses. Although we are doing this for the opportunity to race a big factor is advertisement and Ivan is all about advertisment. Definitely helped finalize our decision. Thanks again.

Hey you know Rich and Bruce at Tatum Motorsports. Give them a call...they had a Pro Truck and now race a Class 1. Ask them to compare the two. They know exactly the prep costs of both cars.

Pretty much what Scott said, (Take his advise, he won alot of races in a Protruck) I am a firm believer that this is the best class to race in at this moment. Here’s why:
- The class is competitive and the Protrucks are consistently in the top 10 overall in the SCORE/BITD races.
- The Protrucks are very reliable. (Most motors go for a year or more with no problems, some components are over seven years old and still being used on our trucks)
- It is the only class that has their own year end points fund, and it’s a very generous one at that. (A fund that you don’t need to put up extra cash towards a year end points fund. e.g. Prodirt, Pro16, Class 8 Coalition, etc.)
- Protruck is trying to get their own television series again.
- Parts are available right off of the shelf.
- The Protruck Teams get some input on the races that they choose to race as a series.
- The teams get to race at great locations with some generous purses & financial help. (Re: La Paz, Guam, Crandon, & Laguna Seca).
- The Protrucks have a high finishing rate.
- Being a spec class you don’t have to constantly upgrade to be competitive. (Re; Rob Rinertson races chassis #1, the truck is over seven years old and is still one of the top trucks in the series.)
-The teams are very friendly & helpful towards each other.
-We have a spokesperson who is one of the greatest drivers of all time.
-Right now we have a Tire & Wheel deal that you can't beat.
I'll be happy to answer any questions that you might have!

Alan,
This same conversation has come up with friends of mine.
What it boiled down to in our discussion was whether or not you really wanted to drive a truck or a buggy. Totally different experience between the two. Unless you build a truggy for Class 1 the dynamic experience is going to be way different.
Class 10 to Protruck the speeds are not all that different. Protruck generally will have a little more top end and a Class 10 will out handle it in the rough and tight sections.
The other issue that I do not like with the Protrucks are the control that the organization has over the vehicles. I like the "unlimited" aspect of Class 10/Class 1 that allows for the ability to use some greater ingenuity and creativity. Not that ingenuity and creativity are non-existent in the running of a Protruck just not as open.
Your additional comment about the advertising aspect of a Protruck is hands down above any buggy. If you have a desire to advertise a product your going to get far more opportunity with a truck. Easy decision.
Either way you're going to have a blast - Class 1, Class 10 or Protruck.

Wish I had a new one. http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/grin.gif Those new cars are sick everything ours has and all the new trick stuff too.I caint wait to run against you Jamie.Neat thing about a unlimited is you don`t have to worry about anyone saying you have a cheater motor and when it comes to cutting course you don`t have time you just go where the car wants at those speeds.See you soon.Bill Markel http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/cool.gif
