What transaxle would you guys recomend for a tube chassis baja bug? The car has an a-arm front, will pull about 20" travel all the way around, run a stock 4.3l chevy with 33" tires and is mostly going to be ran in the sand. This is a tight budget build but I dont want to worry about buying a new tranny every time I take it out. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I've noticed that there has been drops of oil on my axle housing/tubes for a while and never thought much of it because it was only a few drops..but today I took my jeep to some good trails and when I returned home there was a VERY large amount of oil in the undercarrige/axle. I am 99 percent sure its coming from where the drive shaft enters the third member. These are Currie ford 9 inch axles. I...
I am working on plumbing my trans coolers- 2 of the smaller PWR coolers. I have a 4R70W tranny (97-03 F150), and I want to use quick disconnect fittings to make removing the lines easier for prep etc. I was looking at using these fittings: http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/advcat.asp?CategoryID=JIFFY There are a couple of different series that have different flow rates (at 5 PSI): 2000 Series...
Ok I need some help here. I am starting a prerunner build using D44 hubs on an A arm set up. I plan on using the power brakes system on the truck and I'm looking to find the best "upgrade" to do using stock parts. Building a custom spindle, so mounting a caliper is not a problem. I have read long ago maybe about using rotors from a dodge? Is there a larger dia. rotor that I can find from a...
I’d like to hear from those of you that have experience setting the Pinion Angle on a Four Link truck. I have my opinions, based on many years of experience, but am always willing to get edumacated by those with experience and knowledge. Travel is 30” from full bump to full droop. Transmission output shaft is pointed down at 6 degrees. One piece driveshaft with U-joints. What do you...
The old ladys truck needs rear tires after 35k miles the damn tire pressure monitoring system MAKES me run 38psi or more then the dash lights up like a pinball machine followed by a email from onstar. Their is way to much pressure in the rear of a unloaded truck causing the center of the tires to wear out. anyone have this problem? I'm going to the dealer monday to see of chevrolet will look...
Currie is looking for someone with a nice Titan prerunner that's interested in purchasing one of our new F9 rearends. We are offering a discount on the rearend and a free install in exchange for the use of the truck at the Off-Road Expo in CA. in October. The truck may also be needed for an Off-Road magazine shoot. If you're interested contact me at (714) 528-6957 ext 104 or...
I installed a whole new brake system (front-to-rear. . .new lines, calipers, master cylinder, proportioning valve, everything) and I've pumped fluid through the system going through the bleeder valves to the M/C and I still don't have any pressure in the system when I pump the brake pedal??? I have no idea why this could be??? Could anybody PLEASE help me out? BTW, this is the first time...
Hi Guys, What is the front drive set up most commonly used in Pro 4? Front Diff, C/Vs, Hubs, Transfer box, Transmission etc? Are they off the shelf or completely custom made? Any Links on where to get these items from? Thanks Mike
I have called two places and made posts no real answers... I have a wilwood 4 piston caliper with 11.75x1.25 rotor on our full floater rear end, for the froint going to do 4 piston again but step up to at least a 12.19 rotor... built c4 and 4.0l sohc motor just bolt ons... I am getting a fwd swing pedal but have no idea on which bore size cyclinders to get if i should do remote res or not and if...
The ranger is now on 37's with a new V8. I'm trying to get opinions on gearing. I'm thinking 5.14's. Speed in high gear at 5500 is right around 115. Don't think I'll need to go much faster than that in Barstow or lucern. What do you RACERS think? I dont run much more than 5500rpms.p
I have a rear axle converted to 5/8" studs. My options the way I see it to mount the lug-centric wheels are: 1. Fabricate a spacer to center the rim opening (I suppose it's cetered from the mfg even if wheels are lug-centric - please correct me if I'm wrong) against the axle hub center. 2. Open up the countersink in each lug hole to fit larger 5/8" conical lug nuts. 3. Try to find...
Has anybody done this? Doing my motor swap and trying to use this trans out of a 2001 sport trac with my winter;s shifter.
How do these tires hold up in dirt and on the road? anyone have a pair? Looking at getting a set of 33's for our 93 Bronco.
After some research on RD I haven't come up with a consensus on CV joint angles. I have found variations on the 930 from 24 to 28 degrees. Does anyone have some reliable numbers for a 930, 934, and Series 30 CV joint while under power.
I saw in the featured classified section here at RDC, someone was selling custom wheels and tires (Really skinny) for sand cars and wider cars that wouldn't fit in the toyhaulers. I have been racking my brain and called multiple people and no one can remember what company it was. Any help would be great.
So I've searched though as much as possible and still have a few questions. Basically I have a turboed LS1 that will have about 600hp. The truck has solid axles front and rear with 18" front and 24" rear travel. The racing is more like KOH than desert but we still do 100ish mph at times. Now I really need a PTO to power the hydraulic winch as a crank drive system is just too complex. So...
I don't know if this subject has come up before. Has anyone built a solid axle vehicle with a rear engine driving thtough a military Hummer's wheel reduction unit as an alternative for a marine v-drive? in it's original role it sees considerable torque from 37 inch tires under a heavy vehicle, and they are generally quite reliable in sevice (can't be said for the diff's...). in the proposed...
just did this a few days ago... my reverse is park. my nutreal is reverse my drive is nutreal and 2nd gear is drive.. how do i fix this. and would this also screw with my brake light and turn signals ,not to work as well? trans has been rebuilt i believe 4 years ago.
I am going to a Currie Fab 9" 35 spline full floater in my 2006 Tacoma in a few weeks and I am working on solving all the little details like wheels, brakes etc. I have listed my plans for the different issues in this swap so please feel free to critique and give your suggestions. WMS to WMS I went with 69" which is what my WMS to WMS is now with the 1.5" spacers on each side. ...
i have a 95 f-150 with an 8.8 ultimate rear end built by currie it started binding and poping the other day so i limp it home and pulled the cover there were chunks of metal and i found a bolt stripped or broke on the gears. so i called to get a price and im looking at anywhere up to 700 bucks. so im thinking of just going and getting a 9 inch rear and and over time ill put gears and a locker in...
I recently got my first Class 5-1600 project. Its a 1973 bug and I am wanting to upgrade the brakes from the old drums. I hope someone could offer some good advice and theory on a proper front and rear bias etc... I'm thinking front drums and rear disks but I'm more or less wandering about the sizes and measurements of the cylinders, rotors, etc... Any help is appreciated. ---Semper Fi and Live...
What kind of options are best to get more oil capacity in a 9" axle? It currently takes about 2 quarts and I'd like to be able to fit another quart in there to help cool it. My Sterling takes almost a gallon. It's an early 80s F150 housing in a Bronco, semi floater ends, 4.56 gears, detroit, 31 spline. Maybe another option I could weld fins to the housing to help cool it? Kinda like a big...
It seems the rg tt is having angle issue's , there v-drive is 5 degree's off 90 with the motor seeing how its made for a boat and all . the driveline angles are less than perfect -it appears the mcmillians may have experimented with phasing on the shaft , the details are sketchy and info is not flowing in that direction. But I have an idea about phasing that may help the problem , I hope to get a...
Just like the title says. . .what does bench bleeding a M/C accomplish? I have never done this before and I'm wondering if my not bench bleeding the M/C in my new brake system could be the reason why I have no brake system pressure. Thanks!
