We need some advice on spring rating, just to get us close until we can get out testing with shock company. If you compare the coils from front to rear you can see there is a lot less spacing, the coil are still set to where they were set when we took it to the expo at ride height. We will be switching these blue coils out for eibachs per our shock sponsor’s suggestion. The rear now has 21...
I am getting wierd #'s from the Sway-Away calculators. I think I am measuring something wrong: Front a-arms D1 = from the lower control arm bolt to the shock shaft centerline at a 90° angle? Front corner weighs 450lbs and it's telling me a spring rate of 365lbs... Rear buggy trailing arms D1 = from the pivot bolt to the lower shock bolt? that seems to be the shortest line.
I am building a new frame. What are the pros and cons of the 2 different steering setups? I know that racks can be mounted for either setup. I have heard that there is a diffrence in the way that the car handles. What is different?
Anyone know FOA's new address? Not answering phone, I know the place burnt down.
What are some examples of shock speed low, mid, high vs terrian wash board, ruts, whoops , g-outs , square edges, ect...
I appreciate the board's support on my learning curve. I finally got some video to aid in the diagonstics. I have a few more that I will add, but what are the initial thoughts? This run was about 45mph in 3rd. Felt like the back end was bottoming... Doesn't look like it though Feel free to bash the speed ;) but I really want to hear about the handling.
So ive been thinking about this for a while. being how my front end from the factory is setup how it is. Getting any kind of lift would put straight control arms at quite the angle at ride height.... in the parking lot the other day i say a done up ranger. and his steering and lower arms came down than kinked about in the middle to become parallel with the ground. I’m thinking that the lower...
Does anyone know if General is making a 33x10.5x15 Red label tire? If not what is the best tire to go with in that size? I have been looking everywhere for some BFG Baja's in that size but seems you gotta be a racer to get them, well unless your rich @ 575$ a tire!!! Need 5 for my desert buggy
Hey there Guys Looking for some help in getting the end off this shock as it seems very very tight and do not want to do damage too it so what is the best way?? Any help would be great Thanks
Who makes a 3-4" lift for the 96 F250 HD? I did a search and read that F150/Bronco brackets work. Any one have more info and maybe pics? Does any one do a bent beam kit? Thanks
I have a super buggy with a ram assist power steering. At the last race, one of the lines between the ram and the steering valve got torn in half when I put the front end under the car in front of me that crashed. I restarted the car, backed the car up and off to the side and shut it down. I had somone pull the power steering belt off and ran the rest of the race without the power steering...
I have a prerunner buggy with Gear One four piston calipers, EBC green stuff pads and vented rotors. As soon as I hit the brakes once or twice they squeal really bad, like ear piercing bad. Is there any miracle cures to stop this? The rears are 6 piston and don't make any noise, just the fronts.
Hey I might be getting a '76-'77 F250 custom with a solid axle and i was thinking of turning it into a prerunner with Ibeams and was wondering if this is a good idea or if its not worth the time? Thanks
i hear that gm has a "flaw" in their center link, pitman and/or idler arm set up that off road conditions tend to break which i dont know much about. can someone please share some info on this for me? i know its probably a vague question, but im looking to get some understanding on it. any help?
I'm about to set up beams on my old ford and I see the beam/spindle/hub will go past the frame by around 18". With the bump on the frame there would be a ton of leverage on the beam end. What can I do that wouldn't look cheesy? I thought about tubing, or a sub frame. Any ideas? or better yet pics of the solution to this problem?
First off, I want to say I did not build this truck entirely. I bought it, put alot of work into it to get it where its at today, which, is actually a whole lot better than it was when I picked it up but the steering is one of the last remaining things that really get me festered up and Id like to get it fixed or at least better than it is right now. At static ride height it has an 1/8 toe out...
Im helping a friend with his chevy. The pass side tie rod come out of the steering box. I know nothing about this set up. How do I fix this? Do I just buy a new boot and push the rod back in? There is a round ball on the end of the rod where it pulled out of the box. I dont see and not sure on the fix. Any info would be great. Thanks
I'm curious what the rule of thumb is for shock tower measurement. I'm guessing as far as the arc of movement will allow is the bottom point then how much length is given for the shock? a 1/8" less than full stroke?
Saw this in the classifieds and checked it out on their website... http://www.bajakits.com/baja-clips/build-a-trophy-truck/details/34/47/baja-front-clips/build-your-own-trophy-truck.html Does anyone have any experience with the kit or know anyone who has actually used them? They look like a great deal for the price, but I would love to hear some personal feedback- thanks!
Hi,, As some of you may know i´m building this crazy front wheel drive offroader, need some input on the steering,, I have aprox 186 cm between the outer steering joints of the spindle, double a-arm setup, is there some tips on a rigid steering setup that doesn´t cost a fortune. High rev engine,, ( problem with servopump ?? ) I will need some sort of powersteering,, is there a kit with...
I've been polishing up my geometry skill set.... This is a chance for me to learn before I continue to a mock up... Feel free to bash slam or praise..... I drew a scaled print to work with and this is what I came up with using a few pointers from various threads. I would like to know if this is a decent starting point to continue from the head on geometry to the overhead and side view...
I have a 09 chevy silverado crew cab that I am putting a set of deaver spring under leafs on. The leaf pack is the c85 model, i will be using the offset GMR hangers and blitzkrieg 7.5 inch shackles. I have to weld new spring perches on the bottom of my axle housing, so therefore I need to know what pinion angle I should have. Is there a general "rule of thumb" for pinion angle at full bump,...
Alright I am looking for a front Long Travel kit for my 2000 Tacoma 4x4 I know about the ones out there already by total choas, and camburg. They both create 13'' of travel. Is there anyone who makes a 17 to 20 inch long travel kits that is 4x4 friendly. Advice anyone?
I have a fullsize chevy that I will be building a swinger type steering for. I am looking for a steering box that is affordable and reliable. The truck has a good amount of travel and is very fast so the steering tends to take a beating. Any suggestions on steering boxes? Can i pull one from a junkyard and rebuild it or should i go a different route?? Any help is appreciated.
I am dropping down 2 classes in our local 3 race baja series and am going to build a 98 Four Runner. The biggest problem im running into is the rules for suspension 2.2. Suspension 2.2.1. Stock style suspension as from factory front and rear required. 2.2.2. Double shocks or single reservoir shocks max per corner. No coilover or bypass shocks allowed. 2.2.3. Stock style bumps stops. No air...
Hi, I am building some traing arms for my buggy and hav been doing alot of measuring trying to get the arms to kick in so I can get more down travel so I don't run out of cv angle. Has anybody ever tried lifting the inner pivot up so the wheel travels in more of an arc? If so what are the bad points to doing this? Will the buggy react badly from doing this? Thanks Aaron
3x3's or 3x5's in the rear? how big of a difference do they make? what should i run in the front? ideas and pictures would be very helpful thanks
I'm currently building a 73 c10 into what I hope to be a respectable pre runner. I've recently hit some snags in suspension that I CNET seem to get around so I'm gonna need some help. here's what it looks like so far, the control arms don't fit with my steering column and it's making my wheels pitch out.
Hi All, I bought a 7S truck and want to change the steering to single swing or an equal length crossover steering setup. Are these two options legal under BITD and ADRA rules? I checked the rulebook out and it mentions having to retain stock pivot point locations. And while I'm asking for help, how much further can I go with the front end while staying within rules? Thanks in advance for...
In the eternal quest for better shock set ups I have a question. Is it possible to get lots of free bleed so the cross ruts are smooth(er) and still have the bump zone do something? My front end needs some work. 3-6" ruts rattle my teeth out, but mid-speed hits it blow through the travel and I don't feel any seperations in the zones. Here's the current set up and my next plan... thoughts? ...
