Re: 2012 Class-12 new Engine Option!!
I've got another setup question...I am running a "doghouse" 36 HP style fan housing which uses the 1971 or later/superbeetle fan and doghouse oil cooler (I also have an external cooler and electric fan).
Are guys running a old-style 36HP fan shroud with a oil-cooler blockoff/return and only running an external oil cooler for reliability and weight savings (avoiding the dog-house oil cooler potential for bursting/breaking) or is my setup more common? I think CB performance makes a 36HP-style fan shroud with no doghouse oil cooler housing in the back which also utilizes the late-model super-beetle (71-later) style fan? Is it better to have the additional cooling from a late model fan or slightly lighter fan of the early model fan...if there is much of a difference? What about ditching the doghouse oil-cooler itself? If I do that, I'll need a new fan housing for sure.
Is anyone not running a windage tray with a normal engine oiling sytem (versus a dry-sump setup where a windage tray would not be required anyway)? I do have one of those "super-sucton" oil pickups available to help stave off oil starvation. Since I found that cracked windage tray, I want to dump the whole thing, but am wondering if I will loose that oil control then and maybe even performance with the oil sloshing around.
Thoughts?

windage tray is a must in non dry sump engines. All your oil will end up in the valve covers and never be where you want it for long. No matter how much suck you pump has if there is no oil to suck then you get air and then light comes on and freaks you out as your driving. I have a tray and still get air here and there on really hard hits or long turns.

Re: 2012 Class-12 new Engine Option!!
We have the cam setup figured out for the motor now. We will run the 2110cc engine on the dyno in about 2 weeks. We are going to hold off on a dry-sump until after the next race. We are putting a new windage tray in to replace the cracked one and paying extra attention to clearance with the cam this time. I'll let everyone know what numbers we are throwing as soon as the run gets done! I might have to take a collection to reveal the jetting, head, cam, and timing data though...LOL!

Some new cam build pics. We will need to make a custom oil pickup tube. The Bugpack super suction pickup is NOT a bolt on application!! Buyer beware, if your pickup tube is not aligned just right, you WILL have install problems. Also, the kit did not have one extra long stud to secure the suction tube...needed to make my own as well as fabricating tube...

Ended up going with a "modern 36HP" fan shroud from CB performance (chrome) which utilizes the "super-beetle" fan. The new shroud dumped the doghouse style oil cooler which now has a return block-off. Also now has a rear intake screen to keep out rocks and junk which was not possible without fabrication on the doghouse style shroud...

Re: 2012 Class-12 new Engine Option!!
Well I don't race class 12 but this is a very interesting thread. I myself do like the motor option so I have a FAT play motor I have had for a while now, a 2110. Recently just picked up Justin "Bean" Smiths/ Jamie Campbell 1/2 1600 chassis, very excited! So I just went to FAT today got my new cam from Greg for my 2110 and am going to rebuild it to these rules and put it up for sale with a dyno sheet included. I am stoked to see what it does!

You can keep that motor, stretch and widen that chasis to race class-12...to take advantage of the class-12 engine option rules? We have our dyno-tune run setup for next Friday.

Re: 2012 Class-12 new Engine Option!!
Believe me Frosty I want too!!! I'm just too deep into the 1/21600 with parts, spares, etc....I just figure I have a 2110.....so why not see what I can get out of it building it to the new class specs/rules and give someone else a good fresh motor right off the dyno at a decent price? Its just gonna sit otherwise. Best of luck with your combo, I will post my updates as well.

I think I talked to you at the Caliente race. I was with Luke McMillin with the 1600 car and just was looking at your ride friday. Very nice set-up.
