Carburetor selection
Does anyone have any experience using the Holley off road truck avenger series oF carburetors? For the price I am kinda curious about getting the 670 cfm carb and if it doesn't do the trick then just take it to c&j and have them tweak it. It's for a mildly built 4.3l v6

Re: Carburetor selection
670 is more than enough for a 4.3. I just did a corb conversion on a buddies buggy with a 4.3 and a 470 truck avenger on it. It's plenty of carb for a stockish 4.3.
If your really set on a 670, get the low rider avenger, it has annular boosters.........

Re: Carburetor selection
He's running the factory serpintine set-up, sort of....... Edelbrock Vortec carb conversion dual plane manifold.
The 470 will be good to about 6500RPM. If your planning on spinning it higher than that you may need a larger carb. The 470 will have way better bottom end and be more drivable.
Hope you gooped up the head bolts good, why those things are through holes into the water jacket is beyond Me. Totally F'ed design and had one leak........

Re: Carburetor selection
Glad I kept my factory brackets but I do not want to use them they take up so much room, the things are huge. But if what I want to try doesn't work I guess it's factory I'll go. Did you use the factory ignition?

Re: Carburetor selection
We got the cheapy HEI with vaccum advance from Summit.
The only thing with a fabed bracket is the PS pump. He cut quite a bit off the aluminum alt braket to make it look better. I belive it had 2 indlers pulleys originally also, it now has one due to no AC pump and some new belt routing.

Re: Carburetor selection
The formula to figure out what cfm carb you need is-
Engine volumetric efficiency-(ci/2) x (rpm/1728) = cfm
so yours is (266/2) x (6000/1728)= 462 cfm
Formula Source- David Vizard's How to build a budget small block. Great book
