nassar is suppose to be coming back with a citroen car next year. i do not know the details but i am assuming that the citroen deal or cars were not ready for this years race so he decided to rent a ride. so be it the hummer so maybe someone who knows more about the details of this teaming up with robby deal can chime in. but from what i see it looks like nasser came to robby looking for a ride. no one put a gun to his head and told him too. it was all done at the last min. which made some of the support equipment late and that probably caused a lot of other issues as well. the racing starts and nassar drives the hummer like he stole it, some of the most insane driving ever the guy can drive. but when you drive that hard things break and you make mistakes. and robby was there for every breakdown or to get him unstuck or whatever. nassar looses two belts in one day and now down on time he quits as a result and flys home. now this is the sensitive part for some people. i never personally saw or heard nassar say anything bad about robby or the hummer in the media (which is part of your original question) and if he did then shame on him. and i do not know the details of nassar and robby's arrangement but it certainly was not ever one of teamates or nassar would have stayed on as support for robby. just as the mc millins stayed on to help their teamates after their race ended early. nassar basically rented the hummer and some support for this race and only this race. i just hope that the price was worth it for robby. $$$$?????

Anyway, what a great rally. Had me excited to come home from work and read all the updates of the day. This next week will feel like something is missing.
Props to Team America F Yeah!
Kiss My Ass Frenchies!!!!!

Truly was a douchey(sp?) thing to say; what was he expecting from RG's team? To be treated exactly like VW treated him, with the same level of equipment as the Toureg he drove to the win? What a f****** idiot.

Great two weeks as spectator
Dgaf nassar and the minis
Dgaf disqualification
Kind of interesting that aso let him race, covered him as if nothing happened, and let him go up on stage at the end.
Peterhansel bitched that robby was all show --- me thinks aso aint stupid and realizes that pain in the ass robby is a real favorite with north and south american markets - more interest from america means more €€€€€
Great having JC with the hummer and hope mcmillins give it another go.
Hope we see some more bike challengers from US in2013!!!!!

Re: DAKAR 2012 - Final Thoughts
I am disappointed with Nasser. Looking as an outsider from home and following the coverage on the net I initially felt that him and RG would be the new dream team. Two very fast guys that will dominate Dakar from here on out. Well I guess there was more to it and if I have to side with one of the two it is our homeboy Robby. So yeah screw Nasser, he does't appear to be fitting my idea of the guy I will be rooting for.

That more or less sums it up apart from the Citroen bit. Nasser was in it to win it. He paid good money to rent a car and a team to support it. When you are renting, that doesn't mean that you are necessarily part of the team - it was Nassers choice to go home as he was the customer. I for one was disappointed that he did but it was his ticket to ride and it was his call.
This Dakar was the best of the lot in my book. It was great to watch Nasser and Robby go head to head with the Mini's. I have competed against most of the top entrants and Peterhansel is THE best Cross Country driver there is. It's easy to get caught up in the French thing, but I would rather stay out of that as there was as much nationalistic fervour from the American side as well!
At least Robbys supporters stayed to the end of this Dakar. Generally the board goes very quiet if Robby is not going to win! He most certainly put on a good show and the Dakar would have been boring without the two Hummers.
I moved from competing in 4WD cars to the buggy category 3 years ago and I won't look back. In my book, the advantages the unlimited suspension travel far outweighs the 10" of travel that a 4X4 has, in speed and in comfort. I guess that is why I follow the Hummers - that and supporting the underdog against the might of ze Germans.
Great to have met all of you (albeit in cyber space) and look forward to the next one!
Ma'asalama.

Re: DAKAR 2012 - Final Thoughts
I would be disappointed in Nasser if I were the sponsor that paid for his ride. Robby showed tgat you don't have to win to get exposure. Qatar is hosting the Olympics in a few years. Besides just putting the name on the car, Nasser was the face representing Qatar. If he continued on and played nice with others, and didn't look selfish, he would have done some good for Qatar. The cameras are attracted to the Hummers. It would have been awesome to see both Hummers jumping dunes side by side at the end. As it turns out, I think Nasser damaged his sponsor.

Great Dakar. Team SPEED was close. Great effort. Next year w/ Andy Mac, Rob Mac, or LR in the 2nd hummer. 2013 is Robby's year to stick it to the Mini's & Nasser if he is there.
