Yeah, they got stuck because they don't know how to drive in the dunes and think that 4x4 can do anything, it can't.

You're right. What on earth was i thinking? How could a 20kph extra allowed maximum topspeed possibly be an advantage in racing. Damn, i got schooled again!!!

190 kph = 118 mph
How often are these speeds reached in competition anyway. Down that huge, almost straight down dune coming into Iqique RG was doing ~200kph or about 125mph. I can't imagine with the restricted engines, that they spend much time over 190kph anyway.
How is this enforced? Is there an actual governor or are they just supposed to watch their speed and get a penalty for exceeding the limit?

Much less of an advantage than 4x4 and turbo diesels that have twice as much torque at low rpm that petrol engines. Why are you crying about advantages anyway?

From "J.D." in a post above: "For each of the following categories the maximum speed is limited as
follows and controlled by GPS..."

Given the experience they've had driving in the Dunes of N. Africa and elsewhere, I believe they have the knowhow to drive dunes...even dunes and fech fech.
Maybe being overconfident in the 4X4 is likely. I've pulled out lots of friends who gotten stuck in sand with 4X4...even with airing down.

I said they didn't know how to drive in the dunes because they got stuck more times with 4x4 than the hummers.

Who exactly is crying in this thread?
Here's the quote from randy s when the two wheel drive speed limit was first mentioned by Desert Dog.

"randy s
but it is just for robby. i'm sure when they discuss this issue amongst themselves, his is the first name brought up. will the fia require skirts and dresses be worn as well? WAFJ."
Apparently even SPEED is no cure for paranoia.
