Re: The “Redneck Blower”, fact or fiction?

we all know the ASO hates Americans winning their events.. they still have a bounty for anyone that can prove Lance Armstrong was doping during the Tour de France.. They look at Robby the same way.. they will pick him apart for any little infraction.

Robby needs to talk to Lance to see how he got away with it... as he never got caught..

though I do like the NOS in the spare tire trick.. That would help alot in the dunes..

    Dakar: Robby Gordon's exclusion confirmed

Robby Gordon learnt, while preparing for Sunday’s Daytona 500, that his exclusion from 2012 Rally Dakar had been confirmed in Paris, on Friday.

Back in January, Robby Gordon had been excluded from Rally Dakar for technical irregularity on his Hummer. An appeal by the American allowed him to finish the race, and take a provisional 5th position overall.

    However his protest didn’t stand.

The judgment from Dakar’s marshals was seconded by the national court of appeal of the French Federation of motor sports.

Gordon was therefore re-excluded from the rally.
I wish more info was listed on the reasons for the exclusion, considering it was approved before the race and in previous editions of the rally. Will RG be able to appeal this decision or no?

Re: The “Redneck Blower”, fact or fiction?

I thought originally it was supposed to go to the ASO, and if he failed there, he could appeal it to the FIA, where the decision would be final. But it looks like the process skipped the ASO, and went straight to the FIA?

So I don't think there is any more he can do? But I'd like more information. We have heard all the crazy theories, like the "100hp Redneck blower", to the "ASO hates Americans".

Chances are the reality is somewhere in the middle. He violated the rules. The ASO knew about the system, but not all the details.

I tried to follow a little bit when I could of the 2012 Dakar. Robby and Nassar seemed to have quite a bit of coverage via marketing avenues across the world.

They were high flyin, 4 wheel drifting, tire deflating, horsepower making, belt shredding, body changing racers.

Robby didnt win overall? Oh well. Nasser quit? bummer. I dont think that besides Robby putting a Dakar OA win on his resume that really anything would be different right now. He got DQ'ed? wow, he's back in the eyes of everyone again. When was the last time the winner got any press in the last 2 weeks?

I see Dakar as a marketing place for RG. Win, draw, lose, he will be a big show like always. That is his style. Donuts at the finish of a Baja race? How about jumping the table top podium at Dakar?

Robby is the Dale Jr of the Dirt. Lots of fans, lots of enemies, always in the spotlight if he has any say in it, but not always on the top of the box.

    FWIW.... I'm a Robby dork.
Spot on, Rob is a marketing wiz.

FWIW, I'm telling Brian you're a Robby dork!

i don't know. apples and oranges..marathon vs. sprint. 15 days vs. single continuous event. prerunning vs. no prerun at all, really too hard to compare the two but i can say with 100% certainty that this past baja 1000 was a motherf u c k e r and i cant imagine any two of the most dufficult stages at dakar equaling the same approximate distances to equal the miles at the mil, to be more difficult than that was. finishing [and winning]the last baja 1000 in class was the hardest, roughest, gnarliest, most difficult thing i've ever done in desert racing and really, nothing else has even come close. but i have only my experiences to draw upon racing in baja and my own visit to the 2006 dakar rally where i only watched the portuguese and spanish stages where there was really no comparison at all with the stages either on smooth wrc type dirt roads or in the special parade type deals for the fans to watch. as far as i've ever seen, dakar has no summit, no simpsons, no borrego, no el muerto, no uruapan, no san felipe whoop sections, no nightime surprises going down the rumorosa [yikes] or matomi wash surprises going on that i've ever seen on their telecasts. i realize that all these obstacles weren't included at the last mil, but fairly typical in most races i've been a part of down south.. but i've never seen sand like the dakar either in baja..so.....

Robby had said on a radio interview somewhere recently (I am paraphrasing) that if he lost his appeal and ran out of options, he would sue either the ASO or FIA in LA Superior Court, I think it was the ASO......I will try to find the interview

Well from this article it sounds like it wasn't the inflation system so the ASO/FIA found something else to DQ him for.

    I like the last sentence.
