what process do you plan on using to weld them? If you are mig welding...go with hot rolled or BRPO...if youare tig welding...go with cold rolled since there is no scale like the HR stuff.

Mig welding. I have noticed that hot rolled has a lot of scale on it. What is BRPO.

What is the difference between hot rolled vs. cold. Any strenght issues. Too soft or too hard?

Re: what type of steel plate?

the link Fabricator posted probably explains bar & tube more. As far as sheet metal goes HR has ascale to thicker material has more scale but not always the kind you can scrape off.The stuff I get is usually pretty good. CR is the smooth finish just like cold rolled bar it is slightly stronger and harder to bend. Ive made identical parts out of HR & CR and the CR parts would crack at the edge of the part.

HRPO is hot rolled thats been pickled and oiled gives a much better surface finish to it,much nicer to weld isn't to bad to tig either (CR is better). Usually P&O (that how its known) is a few cents more a pound and CR is a few more than that but it also depends on the gauge as well as width.
