Re: Dakar Fan Feedback
Darren, is this the best place to ask the question? We're hardcore fans, which probably represent less than 1% of the TV audience. Better TV coverage comes from more money from sponsors of the show. And that would be driven by a much broader audience than we have here. I agree than more coverage of USA competitors would help. But it takes a unique guy like Robby to really draw in the audience. If Robby/Speed Energy would buy that 8 minute segment I think the audience would grow, which would bring in more sponsors for everyone.
The tracking on the Dakar website needs improvement. A moto fan on ADVrider.com provided far superior live tracking than ASO did. And all he did was take the ASO tracking data and displayed it in a more user friendly way.
For the hardcore fans, you just can't beat the boat loads of inside information that the RaceDezert and ADVrider forum memebers post. We have a better view of the race through the forums than those in the bivouac. If these was a way for ASO to tap into this information stream and make use of it, that might be pretty cool!
I don't make much effort to watch the TV coverage. There is more information and sometimes even better video in the forums and on YouTube from spectators and individual teams such as Robby.
The TV coverage is wrapped up and transmitted out often before the first truck even finishes the race. How can they do an excellent show when the race is still on when they finish the production? I understand (because RallyRadio.net interviewed one of the comentators) that they do it that quickly to meet the same day broadcast in Europe. Perhaps they need to continue working on the show for a couple more hours so the rest of the world can get more complete coverage?
BTW, CONGRATULATIONS on your finish! Looked like you guys went through a lot to keep the car in it!
