HEY FAST GUYS...You want to pass someone FASTER?
It's real simple...run a headlight during the day!! We just raced the Parker 425 (great event!). I was in a jeepspeed, and it was my first 'lap' race. We got passed A BUNCH. And I can tell you the guys that had headlights on got around us probably with out even lifting the throttle. Because I could see them coming through my dust very early and was able to get the stink out of the way. Cars with no headlights...couldn't see them until they were 4 feet from my bumper. Then it was panic time. Some had to follow for 100 yards until there was a wide spot. Now there was no ugly incident or anything - I'm not complaining about being passed, or how we were passed. No problems at all. Just saying if you drive a car that is catching slow cars - you will be able to past faster and sooner if you let the slow car know you are there earlier by having a headlight(s) on. It's very difficult to see you through my dust, unless you have a headlight on.

Re: HEY FAST GUYS...You want to pass someone FASTER?
BRT Texas racing requires a amber yellow front facing light..... Our courses are pretty tight and it makes seeing vehicles 100% easier!!!! I agree, the dust at parker was pretty bad, we also could see cars WAY earlier running front lights!!!!!
GREAT STATEMENT/ GREAT THREAD!

If we really wanted to make passing safer for the slower classes we would be using the Sentinel from Dakar. Every time I use it on the rally I can't understand why we don't have here in the US. Simple, cheap and increases safety dramatically. Especially for the bikers.

Totally agree with this post. in 2009 we raced sportsman and ran the 12" LED bar on the front of our Chenowth, slower traffic pulled over before we got to them. Also, same race, when the TT and class 1's caught us most had a light of some sort on the front of the vehicle and we were also able to pull over prior to them getting to our bumper......then of course there was the TT that didn't run the light and found my bumper......

we Run Rigid Ambers in the front for that very reason, they can be seen through the dust better as well during the day as noted by some who we passed, over the whites.

We've ran a front facing light on our 9 during the day, I don't know if it helps anyone else, but it makes it easy for the crew to spot it.

How funny, i am about to loose it! Ya you are right! You hit it on the spot. I ran the Parker 425 in a 2000 class buggy and I can't begin to tell you how much i enjoyed the ride. First time in a car and Ya, had a lot of cars pass me up. We got fifth on our finish and no matter how fast I thought i was going i was getting past by everything. The cool part was that not once was i hit in the rear. Lots of cool drivers i guess or i might of just got lucky because there was not a lot of spots to get out of the way! ha,ha,ha....Sirens and lights are key, you are right...Now that i think about it i never did see Robbie Gordan in his truggy put i did get passed by BJ Baldwin on the road sections, I was doing 80mph and he passed me like I was not even moving. pretty Funny!!!!

We run the Philips DRL 8 (Daytime Running Light) while racing. It's a tough little light that is the proper light temperature to be visible during the day and cut through dust. We run them on all our Baja chase vehicles as well. It's a good piece of gear.
