Re: HEY FAST GUYS...You want to pass someone FASTER?

Maybe I'm biased, but I think class 5 has the hardest time passing slower cars. We are fast, but we are small and light, so people aren't that scared of us. You see a 4000# truck coming up on you fast, everybody moves over, but some people in larger slow vehicles just don't want to pull over even when we're right on them. We need everything we can to help this, and that's why we've been running front lights for years. It seems like common sense to me, I don't know why anybody would not run lights in the day, but most people don't run them. Some good teams don't run them. There must be something I'm not thinking of.

I brought that up after Parker back in 2008 (the old thread is out there somewhere). I've even talked to Casey at BITD about making it mandatory for the faster classes to run a front facing amber. In heavy dust we usually can't see the faster guys until they pop out of the dust right behind us. When the guys run an amber I can usually see the light poking throught he dust when they are still back away and we that gives us time to find a place to move over. Hopefully the fast guys will get the message here and everyone will start using them even if the series does not make them mandatory.

I think DRL's are step one then I think we should consider sentinal system. Why not both? It just makes racing and chasing safer. Less problems means more racing!

I can see amber running lights facing forward mandatory, we run two round projector pia's and they cut through the dust better than anything. Sentenial will just be another high cost gadget that the promoter gets a kickback on like IRC and cost the racers more money. This is off road racing not a bleeding heart disneyland ride thats cute and easy for all. Nothing personal Matt.

Totally agree. It's 100% man-** ĦAy, caramba!**** ĦAy, caramba!**** ĦAy, caramba!**** ĦAy, caramba!**. That's why I love it! But a little safety won't hurt. Don't worry I want to keep it punk rock!

Had this conversation with a racer a couple weeks ago. Said the only reason he doesn't like running a forward facing light is guys in his class can see him coming then jack rabbit on him. He likes to sneak up on them. Rick D Johnson always has those strobing LEDs on his truck, seems like a great idea to me.

If someone is going to jack-rabbit they are going to do it whether or not you have a light. They either do it when they see the light or do it when your grill fills their mirror.

Yes, but without the light, you will be much closer to them. And a better chance for me to give them a tap and let them know I mean business.
