    Mendeola noise.

Im new to transaxles and just had a quick question. I have a mendeola 2d in a buggy and when the car is sitting there idling you can here a little bit of noise coming from the trans. As soon as the clutch pedal is depressed the sound goes away. Is this normal? If not what could be the culprit?

    Robert,
Thats somewhat normal when the clutch is out the whole gear pack is tuning and can make some noise, as long as its not grinding it should be good....check the magnetic drain plug for chips. You should here the G force in my truck its loud as hell but works great.

sounds like a throwout bearing going bad.you will have to pull motor to replace it

After doing lots of research it sounds like it may be the mainshaft bearing. This is a common problem with these transaxles. In fact there are several different bearing upgrades.

I'd be checking the thrust/throwout bearing first.

I had the same problem with a honda trans, changed the throwout and still had the noise. Since the noise stops when the input shaft stops, it points to the mainshaft bearing. the throwout bearing is still turning when the clutch is depressed, so the noise won't stop. Since you'll have it apart, replace both.

Motor and trans are now out of the car. Going to send the trans in to have it looked at. Will be replacing the throwout bearing as well since i already have it apart.

Bad throwout usually makes noise when you push the clutch in, and is being used, sitting in neutral, it is all the gears turning or main shaft bearing.
