Want to get into short course racing...
Hey guys, another noobie here. I have some questions about getting started into short course truck racing. I'm a student at the University of Wa. and have about another year to go before I graduate, and when I do, I want to start short course racing. I've been around racing my whole life with motocross, but for health reasons it's about time I hang up the boots, and working on cars is what has paid for my schooling. I want to race in a class like the pro lite class but obviously at an amateur level. This brings me to a few of my many questions:
1.) What class should I start in? I've shopped around a little and have seen some pro lites for like $30K to $40K which is basically what I was thinking of spending. I dont want to do the UTV thing just but maybe should I start in a buggy or...? Like I said I need some guidance. The speed demon in me wants to just right into a truck but the race car driver in me knows that it is best to start in something slower and then learn how to drive before moving up (shifter karts taught me that really quick).
2.) What can I do between now and then to prep for it? I am fairly good at drifting and car control and I know how to "read terrain" from motocross so I'm curious what I should do to 'prepare' if anything? I was thinking about getting a ranger and throwing a cage in it and harnesses and just rally the hell out of the near by logging roads?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Andrew

Re: Want to get into short course racing...
hey not that im the wise master to talk to but im in the same boat. raced motocross and a recent broken femur has me looking for something with a cage. me and my brother are looking to the short course MINI STOCK class. or full stock. basically its a lightly modified truck(stock motor and and chassis with travel for mini 9''/11'' and full stock 12''/12''. these classes are meant to be a run on a shoestring budget. here is a big thread on it http://www.race-dezert.com/forum/sho...ni-Stock-truck! and go to lucasoilregional.com for more info as well
