Re: TaxPayer Funded Racing - The Duece

Well, I've been lagging a bit on the updates in this thread. I'll admit I'm a bit intimidated showing my work here cause there's a lot of very talented fab guys and industry leaders here that I could never come close to holding a candle too. I'm trying though and I think it's going to work great in the end! Might not be the best but I bet it's gonna be a whole ton of fun when we leave the start line soon!!!

So with that said, this was a first for me!!! Can't say I've ever hacked the roof off a truck before!

Did that to do the top welding and also did a little bit of plate work. Probably 100% overkill but oh well...

Popped the roof back on and it lined up almost perfect... Only had to wrestle with one pillar a little bit.

And now started into the engine compartment.

I'm probably going to head back into the cab now though again to get the seats mounted and steering column in and hopefully the pedal assembly in soon also so that I can fit the dash. I want to get the dash in ASAP cause we're hoping to either pay or favor or find someone to do the wiring for us. I'm colorblind and can handle simple wiring but I think this is going to be a bit much with my color issues. So I'd like to get it setup and ready to go asap so the wiring person has a few months to knock it out rather then being rushed last minute. I figure I can go back and tackle the front end and shock setup and engine cage while the wiring is going on in the cab. At some point once the engine cage is in place I'll yank the motor to do all the welding that it's in the way of and build new motor mounts too. Possibly do a little more frame plating also... Not really 100% sure yet.

Anyways, figured I'd get a little update in here since it's been a while. I haven't stopped working on it by anymeans...

LOL, so am I!!!!!!! Not sure what that says about me though! Should have something to show in the next week or two. We've finally figured out which assembly we're going with so should be getting them ordered early this week and will see what it's going to involve once I have them in my hands.

hahahaaha im sure you'll be fine , i had a hard time making enough room since that bypass sits outside that upper and so close to the firewall. Let me kno what u guys end up doing looking really good by the way good to see another taco getting bling bling!!!

Still haven't pulled the trigger on the pedals yet. Doing some research still on them to make sure we get what we need and we found a lead on a set for super cheap that might be exactly what we're looking for so just verifying before going with it.

I was happy to see others that have done tacos though that look very similar to the direction I'm heading. Kinda gives me some insurance that I might be doing something right, or we're all doing it wrong! LOL

And yes, I know what you mean about the bypasses being close to the firewall!!!

I'm overdue to post some updates...Khris has been banging away on the truck. We are getting close to wrapping up the front end. A little more plating on the upper shock mounts, then figuring out bump stops, a few down tubes to the frame, and that should be that. Then we'll do pedal assembly in the cab so we can get someone working on dash and wiring.

That will leave us with a few rear end projects, putting the Currie 9" in, moving the shocks outside the frame, new driveshaft, then a bunch of small odds and ends things and the truck will be mostly ready to go! Chipping away at it!

Front end isn't finished by anymeans but enough is done that it's sitting on the ground again finally.

Screwing around with the jack to see droop...

And got the brake pedal tacked in place too.

Oh, got new studs pressed into the wheel flanges and I also got a crash course in safety wiring...
