    Tube Swedger??? Anyone know where?

I currently deal with a company up in LA that does swedging for a lot of the tubing used on our product. I'm COMPLETELY sick of dealing with them and need to find a new vendor to deal with. We're currently researching to purchase our own machine which will happen soon but I will not give any more business to our current vendor and need to find someone that is capable of reading a PO and a print and doing something that total retard should understand!!! Soooooooooooo, Does anyone know of any shops in the So Cal area capable of swedging 1.5" x .120W tubing?

    Thanks,
    Khris

feeding a tube into a die and the die decreasing the OD...making it so another tube can slip over it...

Re: Tube Swedger??? Anyone know where?

Kritter pretty much nailed it. It's actually forcing the tubing to reduce it's diameter. You see it alot in Exhaust tubing adaptors where they go from one diameter to a smaller diameter. That's not what we use it for at all but that's the most common place it's used...

Re: Tube Swedger??? Anyone know where?

From what I understand the tubing has a die set into it and the tubing rotates while hammers hit it forcing the tube to take shape. I've never seen it actually done but have heard it being done. It's a LOUD process and we need a machine in house bad but I'm not looking forward to the noise. Supposedly it makes our 30ton CNC Amada Punch sound like a cap gun!!!

Why would you want that particular piece to be swedged?? If you have room for that gussett, shouldnt you have room for the tube to remain the original OD??

Re: Tube Swedger??? Anyone know where?

in Khris' application...it doesnt need to be coped so you save a lot of time...you just fill it with weld. That pic Khris showed is pretty much the same as smashing the end of the tube and welding it which also alleviates the cope.

The only noise our machines make are from the hydraulic motor and pump...no banging or clanging...
